As a rule, don't need 'pats on backs' or told 'it will be alright' - however, DD2 is 1wk old, and so still very 'tempermental' at the mo. We decided on her being called Matilda. now, 8 people have said 'oh, how unusual, where did you get that name from', in a 'i don't like it, and it is stupid' tone of voice!!!
Be genuine, as i can't actually fall out with you lot - is it really that bad???
TIA

Matilda is a beautiful name

Stick to your guns and tell people not to be rude!

FrankMustard · 14/05/2009 21:08

no, it's sweet

Hassled · 14/05/2009 21:08

No, it's a good name. Could be Tilly for short. Ignore them all - you like it, and that's what counts.

I think its a really beautiful name. I am not sure why people are saying 'where did you get that name from?' Is not common, but I wouldn't call it 'unusual as such.

thisisyesterday · 14/05/2009 21:10

stupid people!

matilda isn't that unusual lol, in fact it's getting more popular I think
it's a lvoely name, we had it on our girls list for all 3 of my pg's

suwoo · 14/05/2009 21:11

Its a lovely name and people are rude and stupid.

dizzydixies · 14/05/2009 21:11

lovely name and they're being rude to comment on it after the fact

ladylush · 14/05/2009 21:12

I like it

norktasticninja · 14/05/2009 21:12

Eh? Who hasn't heard of Matilda? It's a lovely name.

fucksticks · 14/05/2009 21:12

If I've ever said 'oh thats so unusual what made you think of that name?' about a name I have honestly meant it as a compliment. I love unusual names and really enjoy hearin stories of how people decide on the names. I love the name Matilda, its beautiful.

MrsEricBana · 14/05/2009 21:16

Definitely definitely lovely, don't worry!

tigana · 14/05/2009 21:17

I have No Problem with the name Matilda.
In fact...I don't even care if you like it or not, I like it!

sleepingcat · 14/05/2009 21:19

Excellent choice of name! Love it.

Paolosgirl · 14/05/2009 21:19

Matilda is a gorgeous name - and I came on here expecting to say "don't call your DD Talisha-Calisha in your post-partum hormonal state", so am disappointed in you!

bessmum · 14/05/2009 21:20

Beautiful name

MrsEricBana · 14/05/2009 21:20

Agree, was expecting something reaaaally scary!

BeatrixRotter · 14/05/2009 21:21

Lovely - could also be Mattie for short.

artichokes · 14/05/2009 21:21

I regret giving DD1 the middle name Matilda...
but only because I could not use it as DD2's first name.

WinkyWinkola · 14/05/2009 21:27

Fantastic name. Go for it.

What rude people you know!

alibaabaa · 14/05/2009 21:34

thank you so much - DP was starting to tiptoe around me, as it was his choice!! Just wanted to make sure that I hadn't ruined the poor little cretins' life, by ensuring she would end up 'trailer trashing' herself, due to lack of intelligent name issued by parents!!!!

you can't please everyone with your choice in name, just as well really or all the kids would have the same names

its lovely, ignore them and enjoy your little girl

loobylu3 · 15/05/2009 08:42

It's a gorgeous name and it's not that unusual at all! It's sweet for a little girl and strong for a woman- perfect!!

randomname · 15/05/2009 10:03

Lovely name and def not unusual around here I know about 6 under five!

malenagrrl · 15/05/2009 16:23

Matilda is a fabulous name, I love it! It's not even like it is an unusual name, I know two Matildas who are under the age of 3.

People can be very close-minded, they probably would prefer if you gave your daughter a common name like Emma or Chloe...... but there are thousands of Emmas and Chloes and we don't need anymore of those!
