No. I know quite a few Elliots. They are shortened to Eli (pron El-ee), El and Els.

I have an Ellis ( male) and yes it can also be used as a girls name,it's mainly boys though I think from an earlier thread...

I don't care if it "sounds feminine" i love it (for a boy .... )
