I am asking this on behalf of a friend who wants to name her expected daughter Grace or Gracie - is the nickname Crazy Gracie inevitable and has it caused any Grace's you know problems?! Thanks

i would never have thought of crazy gracie! my daughters middle name is grace, we some times call her gracie, very cute x

throckenholt · 07/05/2009 08:24

where does crazy Gracie come from ? I have never heard it.

seeker · 07/05/2009 08:27

My Grace has never been called Crazy Gracie - not sure why it would occur to anyone. Am I missing something?

I would go for Grace, by the way - it's nice to have choices. My Grace likes the fact that it's only her family and best friends who call her Gracie. She's Grace to practically everyone - Gracie to the chosen few!

RachieB · 07/05/2009 09:26

lol i have never heard Crazy Grace/ie either !

I much prefer Grace to Gracie...

Gracie is a tad too twee / frilly for my liking

Grace with NN Gracie when little is nice ,but Grace when older

Kotek · 07/05/2009 09:29

I think she saw a clothing shop with this name and then when typed the two words in the internet, came up with a lot of hits! It'll reassure her if most people don't have this nickname come to mind though!

I'm not mad on Gracie either, but it was seriously cute to hear my ds wheedling his big sister for something when he was little. "Gwaaaaaciiiiiieee - PWEASE!!!!!!" She couldn't resist him!

GColdtimer · 07/05/2009 09:39

My Grace has never been called Crazy Gracie (although she is a bit bonkers, it has never occurred to me ).

I would also go for Grace - Gracie fine for a nickname but Grace is much better as they get older IMO.

drivinmecrazy · 07/05/2009 09:43

Our Grace gets called Gracie groo by family. She was always Gracie when she was tiny, but now at 8 we call her Grace, she thinks its so much more 'sensible', although little sis still calls her Gracie. we consider our selves very lucky that she is very tall and slim and gentle, also loves to dance. wouldn't have worked if she had turned out to be a short dumpy clumsy child with a name like Grace

Kotek · 07/05/2009 10:18

drivinmecrazy - so your 8 yr old has not been teased crazy gracie to date at school - that's great - i'll let my friend know!

my grace is crazy but have never been called crazy gracie

mumoverseas · 07/05/2009 15:37

My DD aged 2.6 is Grace and although many people call her Gracie, including DH and myself, no one has ever called her crazy Gracie. She does however call herseld 'wacie' as she has a bit of a lisp.

KAEKAE · 07/05/2009 15:42

Never heard it....my great gran was a gracie, I used to quite like it, but the name is everywhere now, its become boring imo.

smartiejake · 07/05/2009 15:43

Our Grace is often called Gracie (she actually prefers it)

When she was little we called her Gracie Growler but never Crazy Gracie (it doesn't even rhyme!)

KERALA1 · 07/05/2009 20:32

Never heard of it. Though be aware there are lots and lots of Graces....!

staylucky · 07/05/2009 21:44

My Grace is the only one in her class and I'm not aware of there being hundreds of others nearby. She is Grace on her BC but we called her Gracie as a babba, now she's in reception she prefers Grace. Never called crazy as far as I know, lol.

I think it's a beautiful name. Ok might be biased but think of it's meaning.

We named her after her great grandma Grace who is 98, she by the way abhors the name Gracie and never liked being called it as a girl.

GColdtimer · 07/05/2009 22:13

Likewise staylucky, my Grace is 3 and i dont know any other Grace's (apart from on this thread but its hardly representative . A bit fed up actually of everyone telling me how common it is now when I see no evidence....

Kotek · 07/05/2009 23:33

thanks for all your comments. My friend (who is in Australia) is keen on the name because, although loads of girls have it as a middle name, you still don't hear it that much as a first name where she is.

twofalls I hear you!

no such thing as a common Grace x

lunamoon2 · 09/05/2009 19:20

Er never heard of crazy Grace either.
Prefer Grace to Gracie btw.

glitteryb6 · 09/05/2009 19:25

ive been a Grace for 38 years and was the only kid at school that didnt really have a nickname/abbreviation as no one could ever think of one, the most exotic thing i have ever been called is Gracie Waycie

KERALA1 · 09/05/2009 20:15

Sorry if I've offended just being honest. Can't move for Graces here!

Pingpong · 09/05/2009 20:32

Grace is the number 1 UK girls name
statistics
but my name was the number 1 for years when I was growing up. I don't think that matters if your friend likes it use it!
Never heard of crazy gracie either !

Kotek · 14/05/2009 04:14

I love the name Grace or Gracie. The only negative teasing I've heard re this name is Gross Grace - this is what the character Grace on Will and Grace says she was called throughout high school, and I also know a Grace in the US who says she was teased this at school (about 15 years ago though). Still love the name though.

When I saw the thread title I tried to guess what the 'inevitable' nickname could be and couldn't. So not very inevitable, I'm guessing.
