Hi
Partner and I have just come across this super board and need some help here. We don't know what we are having, have a few names in mind though still not overly happy with any...
Boys

  1. Oscar (poss too popular)
  2. Archie (as above)
  3. Piran (unsure)
  4. Marley
  5. Sebastian
Girls
  1. Izabela (think this is the one)
  2. Liberty-Rose
  3. Talula-Belle
  4. Iola

We want something different but not pretentious, classic but not frumpy...Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Lisa B

Take your points re mid-names...thx nappyaddict!

This is all very helpful and now Isabella is not the number one choice

Veering towards Tallulah (spelling has many variants

Still undecided on boys...Piran is out now , Hugo could be added as earlier mentioned.

nappyaddict · 06/05/2009 22:31

There are only 2 "real" spellings - Tallulah (English) and Tallula (Irish)

salvadory · 06/05/2009 22:52

I totally don't understand hyphenated names, why do it?
Reminds me of all of the Sarah-Janes and Sarah-Louises in the 70's, ick, such a mouthful.
From your boys list I like Oscar (a lot) and Sebastian.
Hugo is adorable.
Girls Isabella is very pretty but also very popular but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I much prefer Ione or even Iona to Iola.
What about Verity instead of Liberty (posh spice's sister has a Liberty as does Ryan Giggs which would put me off straight away).

nappyaddict · 06/05/2009 23:04

Sarah-Jane is no longer to say than Samantha or Isabella or Tallulah though.

Poppity · 06/05/2009 23:07

What about Delphine?
(sadly divulges favourite name as unlikely to have any more)

snice · 06/05/2009 23:07

If Isabella is too popular how about Imogen?

lotspot · 06/05/2009 23:09

Love Sebastian my favourite off of both the girls and boys list!! (not very helpful bump is a girl though lol)

quite like Oscar, Marley is nice but i just keep thinking about that recent dog film - marley and me? There are too many little Archie's at the moment if that bothers you.

Isabella is again very common but pretty, Liberty-Rose and Taula-Belle are way too little girly twee ish for me - abit sickly sweet, Iola is OK

Jemima?
Christopher?
Heidi?
Lorna?
Patrick?
I know a little Herbie, but can never remember what it's short for lol terrible of me

salvadory · 06/05/2009 23:15

tis the hyphen that vexes me Nappy Addict! Are you a Sarah-Lou/Jane in hiding?!

Pastycrimper · 07/05/2009 09:24

The hyphens have to go, you're all right !!!
Jemima was an initial fave until freinds name theirs Jemima Imogen is OK.
Keep the messages coming, we're definately getting there!
Can Beau be used for a girl that's quite cute, the other maybe is Savannha though a touch chavvy if pron Sav"anna" rather than "arna" which is softer perhaps? Does this have a different spelling though...

OP posts:
RachieB · 07/05/2009 10:04

Savannah you mean ?

Beau is a boys name...

Bo is used as a female name,if you can live with the BO jokes lol

marmoset · 07/05/2009 11:42

Any sign of baby yet?

Some more girls names -
Eva
Penelope (Penny)
Caroline
Beatrice

Pastycrimper · 07/05/2009 13:00

It's still wriggling inside like a mad one Marmoset! I like your suggestion of Beatrice, we did think of another Frenchie name in Audrey as well??

OP posts:
marmoset · 07/05/2009 13:11

Unfortunately, Audrey reminds me of a girl at school (doesn't that always wipe out loads of names!!) but it is pretty. Of course, sometimes you set your heart on a name and then decide that it doesn't suit baby at all. My friend's son spent a whole day with one name before he was renamed with something completely different and not from 'the list'

Good luck - how are you feeling?

Pastycrimper · 07/05/2009 13:30

I'm fine thanks, not tired at all which is unusual I guess, my partner works from home so that helps. I just want to get on with it now, everything has been ready for over 3 months apart from the names of course though we'll wait and see it before making the ultimate choice.

Aubrey for either boy or girl

Bellbird · 07/05/2009 13:47

Hi,

Good luck, hope you're ok ...

We liked 'Joel' for a boy and anything with 'Rose' in it for a girl. DD watches 'The Green Balloon Club' on CBeebies and there's a girl called 'Lily-Rose' which is a nice name.

mickeylou · 07/05/2009 13:49

Archie or Marley for a boy.
I like Isabella - Tabitha is a fab suggestion though.

best of luck for the birth

Quattrocento · 10/05/2009 00:11

Not Marley, the dog dies. And why muck around with the spelling for Isabella? Ghastly and very labelling for the poor child.

I do think that you should wait to meet your baby before you decide. DS was going to be Marcus until I met him, at which point it became perfectly obvious that that was a ridiculous idea.

ceeceeanne · 05/06/2011 10:52

Absolutly love Iola and cant believe its not more popular as its similar (but nicer IMO) to Lola, Ella etc. Like Sebastian from boys best and nn sebby/seb
