Friend has called dd Freya. Unfortunately it was top of our shortlist

We have a long and unusual surname so need something with 2 syllables, not too unusual (but pref not too common), and ideally not ending in an ee sound.

Suggestions?

My SIL loved Freya, but had a friend with a dog called that so didn't feel she could use it, so called her daughter Faye instead.

I vote for Thea too, it's lovely and less common popular than Freya.
Also love Mabel FWIW

You can still name your DD Freya if you like. There is no written commandment that "just because thy friend has named DD with your chosen name, one must not name their DD too!" If you like it, use it.

MummyDoIt · 06/05/2009 16:05

I'd still use the name, to be honest, if it's the one you really want. How much time will you be spending with the friend? Either of you might move away in the future, then you'd have given up your favourite name for no reason. I have two nephews with the same name and it doesn't really cause a problem.

Freya is lovely, what a bummer that your friend chose it too. How about Ruby, Amelie, Rose or Florence? All quite pretty and girly too I think.

Oooh, I LOVE that book!

LovelyBertha · 06/05/2009 20:08

Ooooh, some good stuff here.
Loving Flora and Erin. Strangely enough, there are a couple that were on my personal fave-list but dh wasn't keen on- Astrid and Stella. A family member is Maya, so can't do that one either (which is a bummer, because it would work beautifully with our surname).
I've also been inspired by bellabelly- now rather keen on Bella.

Thank you

Oh, and trixie familliar story- another of my all time faves is Olive, but can't do that one either because it is the name of a close family member's dog. Booo!
