DC3 is 6 weeks old, so obv no idea what sex it will be. Of course, I have a shortlist fo names already, so can you tell me what you think? (I'm Irish BTW, hence the slight Irish slant with the names). Any pitfalls I am missing, other than the wierd Irish spelling?

Boy:

Hugh
Rory
Oisin
Lorcan
Pierce

Girls:
Faith
Sive (pronounced Sigh-ve)
Avril
Albha (pronounced Alva)
Faye
Hero (my secret love..)

Of the boys I like them all except Rory.

Of the girls I like Faith and Aril. Faye is getting quite popular. I like Hero but I think I prefer it for a boy. Albha sounds made up to me.

some friends of ours (who are irish) called their son maoillseachlainn (apparently it's pronounced 'mwhaleshocklin') they call him malachy, which is far nicer and i can't help but think they found the whale name for pure shock value... surely it can't be anyones favourite name???

i know a lorcan

hugh is a good strong name

what about ruari instead of rory? (or other ways of spelling ruari)

Lorcan is v nice and i've never heard of sive but its lovely Is it irish too?

Yay - call her Hero, I love classic names. DP will have to get used to it

Or, Albha. Not Faye, though. Faye sounds too, erm, fey.

Best if the boys is Rory but spelled Ruari (think I have got that right).

Agree with the poster above that people shouldn't dismiss a name because it doesn't have a recognised anglicised spelling. And if it is a easily recognised name that won't necessarily help, DP is called John and people spell his name wrong all the time (morons).
