Am quite liking this at the moment. What do you think? Do you prefer Athene or Athena (or neither)!!

hobbgoblin · 03/05/2009 16:21

I love Greek names, and my preference would be for Athene because Athena slightly reminds of the poster shop!

PuppyMonkey · 03/05/2009 16:22

Ooh no. It just reminds me of the old poster shop.

tiggerlovestobounce · 03/05/2009 16:26

I prefer Athene, for the same reason as hobbgoblin.

toodles · 03/05/2009 16:30

If you pronounce it the Greek way though, the accent would fall on the last 'a' and not on the 'e'. I have a friend called Athina/Athena and as she's Cypriot that's how I pronounce it.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 03/05/2009 16:31

have a cousin named Athena

sockmonster · 03/05/2009 16:31

Athene, definitely. Great name. (ath-eee-nee)

sockmonster · 03/05/2009 16:39

or ah-thee-nee. You know what I mean I actually know a great artist with this name, the type of person that sends you chakra beads in the post and has a giant artichoke patch. I really like it and have never heard it used on little people. Fab unique historic choice.

kif · 03/05/2009 16:51

It reminds me of someone I knew

It was a beautiful name on her.

What about Minerva if you like goddess names

sleepyhead3 · 03/05/2009 17:16

Yes, forgot about the old poster shop!! Used to love it when I was a teenager too!

Isn't that a contraceptive pill?

Hey if we started a thread of contraceptive names (yasmin et al)... would anyone notice?

oh dear must go and do something constructive... lalala

jellybeans · 03/05/2009 17:35

Love it.

Tortington · 03/05/2009 17:46

i think its pretentious in a 2009 chantelle kind of way.

Lancelottie · 03/05/2009 17:55

I like it.
The only one I know is a physics professor... which is about as far from the chakra-beads-and-artichokes as you could get. Still suits her.

rek21 · 03/05/2009 18:41

Love it. We were seriously considering it for DD2 but it doesn't go with DD1's name.

MrsMattie · 03/05/2009 19:51

Both lovely, but have a slight preference for Athene.

sleepyhead3 · 03/05/2009 21:55

Thx guys- just checking again!

DD's middle name is Athene (we're Cypriot, so I hope we get away with not being pretentious ) I like both, we went with the 'e' ending because her first name ends with an 'a' (Lydia Athene fwiw)

dizzydixies · 04/05/2009 10:54

how about Althea? its lovely and gets you away from dodgy 90's poster associations that we all seem to remember

sleepyhead3 · 04/05/2009 12:17

Althea is pretty dizzy but I love the fact that Athene was the Greek goddess of wisdom!!
