Isn't it the name of a sports shop? I thought perhaps it was a make of sanitary towel ,but I might be imagining that.

thumbwitch · 03/05/2009 00:38

Lillywhites is one reason

lily white is a bit of a well-used descriptor when talking about someone being very clean or pure

also a shade of Dulux paint

thumbwitch · 03/05/2009 00:40

piscesmoon - I thought of those too - they are Dr. White's sanitary towel, but if you think of Lil-lets as well, it's easy to see how the mix up occurs.

sounds like sanitary protection

RedEmma · 03/05/2009 00:41

Sounds a bit like a paint colour.

Lily White

It is used in my family to mean someone who is ill and looks pale or if you have had a shock i.e

"she was told her budgie had died and she went lily white"

Claire2009 · 04/05/2009 12:19
