DS2 is a week old and, at 11lb looks like a little sumo wrestler or buddha.

We are thinking about Henry or Leo and I wondered what kids today think of those.

My DD's reception teacher is expecting and they've (the class children) decided on Tinkerbelle for a girl and Hulk for a boy, so I wouldn't ask them if I was you.

We know a couple of Leos and 4 Henrys and my children dont give their names a second thought. It just doesnt occur to kids to think about the names of their classmates i dont think. My dd has had a Tiger in her class since nursery school and she has never mentioned that Tiger is an animal not a little boys name.
FWIW - I prefer Henry - far more classic than Leo wich i think is a bit wishy washy.

Hmm. DD1 was going to call DD2 Billy. I wouldn't ask them either.

tummytickler · 01/05/2009 20:33

That would be 'which' obviously. There is something wrong with my typing tonight! And don't not dont.

IheartNY · 01/05/2009 20:34

DS1 wanted to call DS2 Barney (influenced slightly by the large purple dinosaur I believe)

mileniwmffalcon · 01/05/2009 20:36

mostly poohead and bigbum

dd1's suggestion for dd2 was purple balloon head, rather apt actually, but we decided against in the end

boogeek · 01/05/2009 20:38

Blimey, Billy is looking quite sensible! I do the child a disservice.

LOL - points taken!

Ds1 wants to call the new baby Stitchface, Stinky Bum or Caíthe (an irish girls name which is prounounced like Catch, but if you had a frog stuck in your throat while you said it).
I think I'm sticking with Finn though!

purepurple · 03/05/2009 12:46

DS was disappointed he was not called Gary
not sure why
he has said he will call his child Lurchio if a boy

Weegiemum · 03/05/2009 23:00

My dd1 wanted to call ds Bagpuss.

Ds (with perfectly gorgeous Irishy name) asked the other day why we didn't call him Fred?

Poppity · 03/05/2009 23:15

Another 'don't ask' from me- Miracoon and Maggot were my options

Poledra · 03/05/2009 23:19

DD1 wanted to call DD3 Susie - which is quite sensible I suppose. However, we'd bought her a book about the new baby coming, and that's what the family in the book called their new baby. And it didn't really sit well with DDs 1 and 2's Celtic names. So we ignored her

redpyjamas · 03/05/2009 23:40

My dd likes 'Roger' for a boy (just have to hope she goes off that one) and 'Karen' for a girl. Don't know where she got either idea from as we know no one with either name, either in real life or in any book.

lunamoon2 · 04/05/2009 14:59

DD 1 wants to be called Scarlett
dd 2 Chloe
ds likes Ryan

belgo · 04/05/2009 15:01

ppppuzzler - have you decided on a name? I like both Henry and Leo, also Harry and Leon.

sockmonster · 04/05/2009 18:28

dd1 was initially named by a friend's 8 year old boy as Yoda, as apparently the resemblance was astonishing.

I was present when a friend was set to name her baby 'Finn' and was discussing it in front of ds1, who quickly said "why can't we call him Fat?"

Don't ask anyone under the age of, erm, 21!

LaDiDaDi · 04/05/2009 20:39

DD has recently been announcing that she wants to have sister called "Squidge".
