Whilst having a nosey on another parenting site, as you do, I just came across a child named A,jay. A comma in a name?

The world has either gone mad or I am missing something. Whatever next, Anne"Marie, Ell@, GeOrge....

boobybird · 01/05/2009 16:24

Why not go the whole hog and just call any children !)^%"@# ?

(and then get really sniffy if people mispronounce it )

I was thinking more along the lines of "the artist formerly known as Prince" who tried to do something similar but it died on its arse so he reverted back to Prince.

Perhaps his name is Adam Jay and so she calls him A,Jay? to split the A from the Jay iyswim?
It cant have a comma on his birth cert surely!

Although saying that, you do get those dots above Chloe dont you?

Thats an umlaut accent though. I'm supposed to have them on my middle name Zoe but can navere remember whether its over the o or o

RachieB · 01/05/2009 17:32

O or O ?

They go over the E

R-marni!

I suspect invented punctuation in names acts as a warning to everyone who meets your child that the parents are, um... desperate to be different is probably the kindest way of putting it.

Zoe and Chloe do have umlauts, that's fair enough. (But I don't know how to do them on MN, only in Word).

I know of a girl with an exclamation mark after her name... she's named after a well known perfume beginning with J...

EachPeachPearMum · 01/05/2009 17:50

I know a baby named J' Jay....

BonsoirAnna · 01/05/2009 17:51

Zoë

edam · 01/05/2009 18:02

that's just showing off, Anna!

(How DO you make umlauts when posting on MN?)

bronze · 01/05/2009 18:33

sorry was typing one handed and too quickly for my own good

Edam I think thats why I dropped the umlaut (then forgot its use) because I've never worked out what to press.

MrsMattie · 01/05/2009 18:34

I know a D'Angelo and a La'Toya. Not keen.

BonsoirAnna · 02/05/2009 09:10

I have a French keyboard on my computer, that's how!

My mother's name is Zoë, as is one of my DD's two middle names

pranma · 02/05/2009 17:32

Eloise should have umlaut over the i

Isn't Mick Jaggers girlfriend called L'Wren or something?

chandellina · 02/05/2009 19:00

an apostrophe at least has a phonetic purpose. a comma does not.

BonsoirAnna · 03/05/2009 10:04

Héloïse is the French traditional spelling; Eloise is the anglicised version.
