Jethro James William
Josiah James William
Xavier James William

Your honest opinion on which you like the most and least and why is appreciated.

The middle names are family names.

Josiah. Definitely.

RachieB · 27/04/2009 15:53

Xavier

Jethro reminds me of the comedian!
and not keen on Josiah

procrastinatingparent · 27/04/2009 15:55

West Wing fan here, so really wanted to call DS3 Josiah, shortened to Jed. But DH was having none of it ...

CandleQueen · 27/04/2009 15:56

Josiah.

Jethro reminds me of a mucky Cornish comedian and Xavier is a bit X-Men. I love the Old Testement names

MadameCastafiore · 27/04/2009 15:56

Please do not call your kid Jethro!

tummytickler · 27/04/2009 16:45

I love Jethro - 'tis on our list for dc (high up on mine, low down on dh's so we'll see!).
I like Xavier too, and Josiah, all lovely names!

In order of preference
Jethro
Xavier
Josiah.

Let us know what you choose!

branflake81 · 27/04/2009 16:50

I do like the name Xavier but only if you're French.

The other two are hideous

thirtysomething · 27/04/2009 16:51

Sorry, have only known one Jethro and he was obnoxious (and didn't 'suit' the name really, though don't know what he did suit....) so would go for Josiah or Xavier - both v. cool!

Flibbertyjibbet · 27/04/2009 16:53

Xavier - I considered this for ds2 (we have spanish relatives) but then I heard of an engineering firm near me with the same name and everyone pronounces it 'ex-ayvier'

Jethro - there's a line in a jethro tull song about an old tramp who wees on his feet to warm them up so sorry that name would never do it for me!

Josiah - eerm bit poncey round here but I could see it becoming more popular.

sockmonster · 28/04/2009 15:45

Javier. Far better and classier than Xavier (hav-ee-ay) People will not pronounce Xavier properly in Britain. It will get tiresome.

Jethro- he won't thank you for this. It has a certain swagger to it on paper but in practice do you want a small boy called Jeff?

Josiah- Far better than Jethro, but a bit like a confused preaching Joshua.

serenity · 28/04/2009 16:10

In order?
Jethro (probably because I'm a big NCIS fan, and think (Jethro) Gibbs is wonderful)

Xavier, then Josiah (not that keen on Josiah, but can't pinpoint exactly why)

missmiss · 28/04/2009 16:18

Jethro or Josiah.

ScummyMummy · 28/04/2009 16:30

None, really. Prefer Joseph, Joel or Joe to Josiah, which sounds like an obsequious Dickens-style servant name to me. Jethro and Xavier are dead awful, imo, though as branflakes says Xavier might work better in French. Are you French? [hopeful as feel mean slating all your choices!]

screamingabdab · 28/04/2009 18:32

NOT Jethro - awful comedian

Like Josiah best, but I would shorten it to Joe anyway
