We're down to the final two. Which do you prefer and why?

Verity if our surname didn't begin with a D i would have a Verity and Vanessa
Just because I really like the name

Jojay · 25/04/2009 15:16

Clementine.

It shortens more easily, to Clemmie which is pretty.

The Verity's I know have ended up as 'Vee' which isn't.

MadamAnt · 25/04/2009 15:17

Verity - LOVE it, but DH couldn't be persuaded. Intended to use Rita as nickname.

Galava · 25/04/2009 15:17

Verity.

Isn't the other one a fruit ?

troutpout · 25/04/2009 15:28

oh definitely Verity
it's lovely

itfcbabe · 26/04/2009 10:38

verity all the way!

LetThemEatCake · 26/04/2009 10:57

really don't like Verity, but think Clementine is lovely

LetThemEatCake · 26/04/2009 11:00

sorry you asked for why:

don't like Verity because it sounds earnest and a bit dorky. (I mean, it sounds like someone with that name would be earnest and dorky sorry, not being very clear)

The name Clementine sounds like quite free-spirited and a bit bohemian.

Agree re: abbreviations - Vee is not nice, Clemmie is

bear in mind I have probably been influenced by memories of people with these names in books/ films/ real life

castille · 26/04/2009 11:02

Clementine, definitely. I love it. Verity is a bit matronly, IMO.

Rindercella · 26/04/2009 11:11

Clementine. Love it very much.

Rindercella · 26/04/2009 11:14

Also, I wouldn't consider Verity as I have difficulty pronouncing Rs, so would end up calling her "Vewity". Not so pretty

PersephoneSnape · 26/04/2009 11:27

both smashing, am only jealous that my child-naming days are over

Verity = Doctor who. Clementine = endless sunshine of the spotless mind. I couldn't honestly choose. one would hve to be first name and one middle name.

dizzydixies · 26/04/2009 12:08

Clementine - dh wouldn't let me have it

maybe number 4?!?!?

Nancy66 · 26/04/2009 13:04

Clementine - verity is a bit naff

MrsHappy · 26/04/2009 13:08

Clementine as long as it is pronounced "clementeen" and not "clementyne"

The coolest girl at school was Clementine, shortened to Clem.

singersgirl · 26/04/2009 13:08

I love Clementine, even though it's a fruit. I like the associations of 'clement' - weather, kindness, sunny days. I also like Clemency and Clement for a boy.

I don't much like Verity because it seems a bit too Puritan, like Charity or Prudence - though I realise this might be inconsistent. 'Truth' just seems a bit absolute and harsh, somehow.

Sorrento · 26/04/2009 13:51

Oh no, Polly is a Parrots name
