Cornelius with Corey as a nickname?

Any thoughts please? I tried out DS's name on work colleagues to see their reaction as I didn't really care what they thought of it and didn't want to tell family before he was born. Not working now, so could I please have some facial expressions ...

Also second name, we were decided on Nathaniel Charles but disagreed on nicknames. I still like Morgan (our 'safe' first name for DS). Our surname has two syllables and begins with 'D'

Cornelius is just awful

Charles ok but would remind me of the Prince

dated a horrible Nathaniel once (went by Nate)

so 0/4 from me

Cornelius is a big favourite in Cork, where I am. But always shortened to Conn, or in one case I know to Neil. Jeremiah is also used if that helps. I don't know any under 45 of either name, though.

MsBrandybuck · 24/04/2009 21:30

stleger your other suggestion is DS's name

So you will fit in well in Cork! Alternatively, the MacCarthys are often Florence or Justin (males) shortened to Flor; the females are Justine. Cork names are a whole wonderful world of their own

marymungoandmidge · 24/04/2009 21:46

So, you have a Jeremiah...? How about :
Arthur
Seth
Monty (Montague)

MsBrandybuck · 24/04/2009 21:56

Arthur reminds me too much of a friend of my father's unfortunately [shudder]. I do however really like Merlin

I like Seth but we want to avoid another Old Testament name as DS was named after a book and film character (DH's choice) not the biblical one.

I like Monty but not keen on Montague and don't think DH would go for it.

I would say Cornelius - like it but maybe a bit too unusual

Nathaniel - love it, and could be shortened to Nat

Charles - a bit boring and princey

Morgan - ok but quite common where I am

So my vote is for Nathaniel

jellybeans · 24/04/2009 22:46

I like Corey on it's own and Nathan but not the others, sorry.

lowrib · 25/04/2009 12:40

Cornelius
Nathaniel
Charles
Morgan

yappybluedog · 25/04/2009 13:04

A Cornelius nicknamed Corey is likely to never want to reveal his real name once he's old enough.
Why not just Corey?
