Hypothetical sibling combination - is this cruel? Would I look a pillock shouting this out in Morrison's?

Only very hypothetical as am only a "little bit" pregnant, but I'd like opinions on a potential combo. Be as blunt as you wish.

Am just over a month pregnant and have an (almost) two-month-old son - thank you Levonelle ... not. Given that I was convinced he was a girl right from the off, the ultrasound said girl and we didn't learn he was a lad until several minutes after birth when they took off the blanket for the standard inspection to be confronted with enormous boy equipment, I'm not going to be placing much on my instinctive leanings - but nevertheless am getting a "girl" inkling. Our son was going to be an Anna and other favourites were Hayley, Rosie and Claire. However this time around both DP and I were instantly drawn to Gemma. We were in Paris yesterday and had a brief name discussion at the park and eerily both had exactly the same name in mind - Gemma. Down-to-earth, pretty and goes nicely with the boyfriend's surname.

The unarguable catch is that our son is a James - known as Jimmy. And no matter how I say it, Jimmy and Gemma sounds horribly saccharine and twee. Trouble is I can envisage myself getting immune / used to to its syrupy unctuousness. Possibly even to the point of (gulp) considering it. And so am seeking the honest opinions of Mumsnetters on the matter! Am I an insane tw*t for even contemplating this for a fraction of a second? If the concensus is yes I'm blaming all this on temporary insanity brought on by the prospect of having two children ten months apart at barely 21 years old!

Cheers in advance guys.

Pretty unanimous then. And the more I peruse, the dumber it sounds.

Good thing I'm warming to Alice!

Sounds totally wrong together, sorry. James and Gemma not so bad- I think perhaps I just hate the name Gemma due to really bad associations with really annoying people of the same name, mostly while I was in primary school..issues...Yeah I really really dislike the name Gemma. Gem and Jim?
ps congratulations though...many months to decide!

sockmonster · 02/05/2009 18:33

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/05/2009 18:46

apologies to anyone with kids with these names..but, reading about Jack and Daniel reminds me that my DH's Glaswegian boss uses Jack and Danny as rhyming slang for part of a lady's anatomy!.....

just spat my drink all over my coffee whilst reading your post gigglewitch. what is your dad called?

showing myself to be a reader of ok magazine here but I think the footballer michael owen has a gemma and a james. would be ok if your james was called james on a day to day basis but definately no to jimmy and gemma.

by the way - best of luck with your pregnancy . hope you are feeling ok -what with newborn and pregnancy at the same time!

MrsBun · 12/05/2009 18:09

oh My goodness - no way! WOW you are going to be busy!

MrsBun · 12/05/2009 18:12

I mean in a good way sorry - had just read the thread from the start and then yours was the last post. So if you always had another name in between it might be ok as in Jimmy, Alice and Gemma??

BalloonSlayer · 12/05/2009 18:20

To add to this, I think that the reason you have fallen in love, all of a sudden, with the name Gemma, is because you ARE in love - with baby Jimmy. Therefore Jimmy is the most beautiful, wonderful name in the world to you, and names that sound like it sound beautiful.

I think this is the reason behind a lot of parents having baby names that sound similar (there was a recent thread about it).
