Disappointed with someone using the same name as you

Is this terrible? My dear mam died a year ago and i was her only child. I was always going to call my daughter after her. as soon as she died, my cousin who lives in belgium and isnt that close to my us announces that shes naming her baby after my mam. there are now three kids coming or here that will be named after her or with her name as their middle name, so there will be loads of grandkids on my mams side of the family with that name. is it horrible to be a bit irritated by this? i feel like she was my mam so i should have been the one to be allowed use it...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

If you are not that close to your cousin, I would still use the name.
Is it a name that you can use a nickname for?

Sorry to hear about your mum.

I would still use the name.

There are lots of Joannes, Emmas and Andrews in my family for some reason. No-one has ever appeared bothered by it

Sorry about youre Mum

TBH I expect that copusin thought she was being kind and generous, arther than hurtful- I'd use the name (or did she have a middle name you could have instead?) or a variant of it still, it's fairly wide what you can do with a name- fro example if i had ever had a girl I wanted to name her for my nan, but Nan's name wouldn't go with my surname (or rather it would be cruel- daughter would be called Rosie Peach!!!) so we decided that we'd merge it with another (daughter would have been Thea-Rose).

I would say take it in the spirit meant (your Mum must have been a lovely lady) and get creative

Dh's cousin's daugher has the same name as my dd. The girl is near enough the same age as my dd, my mil only told me last year!

As you can see they are not a particularly close family although my mil does see her sister regularly!
