Clare-fine, not popular at the moment, have you also consideed Clara?
Ada-I like it but prefer Ida
Lilith-no
Sibyl-ok, prefer Sylvie
Esther-nice, my mother loves it for some reason
Gerda-makes me think of Irn Bru
Ismay-ok, might get confused with the more popular Esme.
Leonora-sounds like Lenor fabric softener
Cornelia-ok, much prefer Cordelia
Cynthia-no

Damian-ok
Felix-nice
Diggory-I quite like this, surprising myself here, also really like Digby
Rolf-no
Edgar-no, prefer Edwin
Kurt-not at all, sound like an action man imo.
Clement-ok but dislike Clem as a nn, could consider using Clay as a nn?

Girls

Ismay ( but prefer Esme PN Ez - may)

Boys

erm ... none of them !

cheekster · 21/04/2009 22:25

I like Lilith and Ismay for girls name. But dont like any of the boys names - Diggory is not bad I suppose.

Clare - does the world need yet another one? Bland. Use it as a middle name if it has family associations.
Ada - leaves no impression. Fine as a nn. Will people continually say 'Did you say Ava?'
Lilith - ok, for a quirky child but will she just end up being called Lily anyway?
Sybil - Hmm, the Fawlty Towers character might be too much to overcome and she might forever be jokingly called it in the angry, Basil style intonation. Oh God and do you remember that weird film about the girl with 16 personalities? Her mother was a horrid creature. I think that film has scarred me for life. I watched the video when I was far too young!
Esther - not bad, once worked with a lovely one. Unpretentious.
Gerda - reminds of acid reflux and gurning.
Ismay - alright - I think of flowing clothes and amateur dramatics for some reason.
Leonora - ok
Cornelia - like.
Cynthia - will always be Cynthia Payne for me. I've known a couple of hispanic girls with this name and because of their ethnicity it had a whole different vibe about it. I also think of Nixon from SATC. I've got a feeling this name is on the way up.

Damion -McBride? Despite that, alright.
Felix - not adverse to it.
Diggory or Digby - no problem.
Rolf - no, the Harris connotations are too strong, middle aged people will forever be chuckling and saying "Can you see what it is yet?" in an Australian accent and "Where's your didgeridoo, mate?" It will drive you mad.
Ralph's fine though.
Edgar - not bad.
Kurt - nope. Very gung-ho. If you're of German extraction, fine.
Clement - yep.

What's your personal inspiration for these names? You've got some diverse styles there.

Ada Clare sounds like I declare.

TwoScrambledEggs · 22/04/2009 12:39

Were it me I would shorten the list to:

Ada Clare Surname
Esther Leonora Surname
Cornelia Ada Surname

Felix Diggory Surname
Kurt Diggory Surname

Rolf and Ralph make me think of vomit for some reason, no idea why

Sorry if you already have your middle names sorted.
