I think we have decided on Ted

Do you like it? Do you think it is too much of a nn to put on a birth certificate like Archie or Freddie?

Honesty please ladies

it's nice. It's a cuddly name.

and was my grandpa's name too (ok, was actually edward but everyone called him ted and they didn't do abbrev names as 'official" names back in the day, did they?)

HeadFairy · 20/04/2009 12:07

It is a nice name but he might hate it when he goes through teen years, if he's called Edward then he can at least revert to something else if he's trying to be the big man.. you know what teenaged boys are like

WinkyWinkola · 20/04/2009 12:08

Or Theodore. Give him the option to choose maybe? He could still always be known as Ted.

singersgirl · 20/04/2009 12:09

DS1 (10) is Ted but is Edward on his birth certificate. He doesn't see himself as Edward though and gets very angry if anyone tries to call him this. We used to call him Teddy a lot when he was younger, but he also hates this now.

hulabula · 20/04/2009 14:28

I would put Theodore on the birth certificat. Gives him more options later in life.

LizzyIzzyLou · 20/04/2009 15:03

If we put Theodore on his birth certificate, would I still introduce him to everyone as Ted?

Well you know I like it by now!!

jellybeans · 20/04/2009 16:08

I see it as a great name, try here to try out what various names look like. Ted is good as it is 'sharp' like Zac or Ben or Sam, not really cute like Alfie, Freddie etc.

WinkyWinkola · 20/04/2009 16:39

My DS is Theodore. We only call him Ted or Teddy. He doesn't even know he's Theodore! (He's 4).

Takver · 20/04/2009 16:58

I would definitely put him down as Theodore or Edward, but call him Ted in RL. It is one of my favourite boys names ever, but you never know what will happen, so good to give him the option of Theo, Eddie or whatever if he decides for some reason it is not him.

My first thought was Bundy

OUr son has a nn as his name. His official name on his birth certificate is the longer version but no one ever calls him. He is always known by his nn. Even at school.
