Name association, does your OH understand?

I'm sure most of you at some point in the name selection process decided against a name merely because you associate that name with a person from your life (past or present) or a character from film, tv or book, I know I did, we were set on calling DD4 Roxy until I started watching eastenders again and it put me off. The thing is my OH just didnt get it..he totally didnt understand why I would dismiss a name just because it reminded of someone. My little sis is pregnant (7 days overdue, poor love) and she says the same thing about her partner..he just doesnt understand that she wont call her baby a certain name because its the same name as a silly slapper that she went to school with. Most women I know seem to agree with me, but is it just women that make these name associations, do men do it too?

agree totally. dp wanted to call our child hunter if it was a boy, now quite apart from it being an awful name i could never have got over the fact it was a gladiator that shagged ulrika johnsan, he didnt understand the problem. fortunately we had a girl

no i think men do it as well. although dp tends to do it the other way round and suggests names of people he likes or admires
but no, he has certainly vetoed names I've suggested because he went to school with horrible ones
