When I was pregnant I liked Jemima and other English sounding names but they won't suit my little girl unfortunately - the above do but can't choose. Please advise me...

Gabriella....not gabrielle....

WildSeahorses · 16/04/2009 18:48

Isabella, definitely. Seems much more elegant somehow.

I think it will probably be a bit more popular, but then there are lots of options with it - Belle, Bella, Elle, Ella, Isabel, Izzy - so she shouldn't end up in a situation where it's 'Isabella one' and 'Isabella two'

Gabriella is ok, but she won't get as many options if she wants to shorten it. Also seems a bit les feminine (I always think names stating with 'G' can sound a bit harsh - apologies to anyone with that as an initial...)

Isabella .. and love the fact you have all the other shorter options that wildseahorses mentioned .. all of which are lovely x

Gabrielle

Pollyanna · 16/04/2009 20:12

Isabella - lovely name imo

hulabula · 17/04/2009 13:10

Gabrielle defnately - beautiful, feminine name. Isabella would be too common/popular for me at the moment.

frazzledoldbag · 17/04/2009 14:05

Gabriella or Isabella I think

Woollymummy · 17/04/2009 14:08

Isabella, as long as you don't live in a small village with three other Isabellas, or some such situation. Gaddy is a bit odd as a short name, Izzy or Bella sound nicer. paractice saying them...

MrsMattie · 17/04/2009 14:08

I think Isabella is a beautiful name, i really do, but it is so, so common where I am. there are dozens of Isabella/Isabelle/Isabel/Isobels running around. It is going to be the noughties equivalent of Emma/Louise/Sarah when i was growing up.

Gabrielle - OK. Gabriella much nicer, imo.

KingCanuteIAm · 17/04/2009 14:08

Are you a High School Musical fan? Both these names are very heavily linked with the film and, I suspect, will get very popular with parents who are big fans...

I don't like popular names but I think Isabella is nicest myself

misshardbroom · 17/04/2009 14:40

neither, tbh.

I think both are very pretty (although defo Gabriella rather than Gabrielle because the latter is forever linked with that eyepatch singer). However, Gabrielle(a) will make it sound as though you're too heavily influenced by HSM, and as someone who works in a preschool, let me assure you there's a lot of Isabellas at the moment.

(but then I speak as one who has a son called Harry, so who am I to judge?)
