Ottilie or Ottalia?

We like the name Ottilie for a baby girl (you say it OT- TILLY). However we can't decide on the combination or whether to go for the variant Ottalia (does anyone know how this is pronounced?

Here are possible combinations - let us know what you honestly think?

Ottilie June
Ottilie Rebecca
Ottilie Arabella

or

Ottalia June
Ottalia Rebecca
Ottalia Arabella

Ottilie for me, Ottalia sounds like you're trying a bit too hard iyswim

I like it best with June as a mn

Ottilie June gets my vote too.

Tilly for short.

Tilly is lovely but with Matilda being so popular ATM there will be a lot of them around. It'd be a waste of a beautiful full name in this case IMHO, why not just call her Ottilie?

I like Ottilie - have never heard of Ottalia and I think it loses the cute 'Tillyness' factor.

To me it sounds best with a single syllable middle name - not so sure about June though unless it is for family connections.

changer22 · 14/04/2009 16:13

Ottilie is usually pronounced with 3 syllables - O-ti-lee.

Ottalia would be pronounced with 4 I would imagine - O-tal-e-a.

Otillie was on shortlist for our next DC (with help from mumsnetters, along with Seraphina) until we found out first sonographer was wrong and he's a boy! (Thank God for going for the private 3d scan!) I love long, fancy girls names but I think Ottalia is too much even for me! (could be said ot-tay-lee-ah or ott-tah-lee-uh I guess.)

Ottilie June is gorgeous. Lottie or Tilly if you want a nn.

I have heard of Ottilie but not of Ottalia, and therefore would plump for Ottilie. I think a short middle name would be preferable, but don't really like June, so would choose Arabella instead.

Sidge · 14/04/2009 20:03

Ottilie sounds to me like Utterly with an Irish accent when I say it in my head.

I think you need a short middle name with it, Ottilie Arabella is a bit of a mouthful.

goomum · 14/04/2009 21:12

Yes June is grandmother's name. Rebecca and Arabella are also family names.
