Do you know anyone who uses Amelie as the nickname for Amelia (instead of Millie, Amy etc) ?
Seems to be an acceptable option in the same way that there are lots of Sophias who are always known as Sophie, lots of Marias always known as Marie, Emillias known as Emily etc.... Just wondered what your experience was. Thanks

No - people tend to shorten to Millie or Mia.
But then I've never met a Maria called Marie either.

ugh, Maria shortened to Marie ? Maria is much nicer

Amelie and Amelia are nearly the same name, so yes I think it's a perfectly acceptable nn. I know loads of Sophias nn Sophie.
