prefer Laura

NoBiggy · 07/04/2009 17:34

I like it.

Going to get called Clarissa, no doubt, but I like it.

Nancy66 · 07/04/2009 17:48

Sounds a bit country and western - not saying that's a bad thing though.

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 17:56

Don't like Larissa, sounds quite pretentious to me. I like Rose though.

screamingabdab · 07/04/2009 18:00

Mmm, not sure about Larissa. What about Lara Rose?

Or Lyra Rose

Supercherry · 07/04/2009 18:08

Never heard of it but yes I quite like it. Its unusual and pretty.

lucasnorth · 07/04/2009 18:16

Larissa is lovely. And goes well with Rose imo.

Do you have a Russian connection? (I've been posting on your Tatiana thread - you might want to pop back and have a look. Tanya is the nn for Tatiana, but sounds like you've moved on?)

Leannabanana · 07/04/2009 18:22

oh lucasnorth - i think i am about the most fickle person when it comes to choosing girls names.....and DH is so contrary - one day he likes a name then two days later says no....I really like -issa sounding names because i can imagine myself with a Missy or a Lissy but its dificult to get a long name that marries up to this....i do like Larissa tho it must be said...my DM said Fatty Tatty and that killed Tatiana for me....must remember to stop talking to her.... ha x

lucasnorth · 07/04/2009 18:44

That's why DH and I have agreed not to mention DD2's name to anyone until she's been born; hopefully by then they all HAVE to be polite

Larissa could well end up being called Lara (certainly she would do in Russia!)- do you like that too?

If you're into Russian names some others to consider could be:
Natalya (Natasha)
Lydia
Zoya
Helena (Lena)
Alexandra (Sasha)
Nadezhda (Nadia)
Maria (Masha)
Angela (Gelya)
Irina
Anna
Margarita
Marina

GossipMonger · 07/04/2009 18:45

Think I prefer Clarissa.

Will be shortened to Rissa anyway probably. do you like that? Or Riss? Rissy?

Prefer Clarissa Rose - but agree that it has a lovely rhythym to it.

Leannabanana · 09/04/2009 19:09

dammit. DH has said that Clarissa sounds like clitoris.....i'm not naming my little girl after ladybits....and i just don't like Larissa enough....so back to the drawing board. poor kid. x

Lara?

pointydog · 09/04/2009 19:15

Clara?

belgo · 09/04/2009 19:17

Lara Rose or Larissa Rose, both are nice. Rose is a very popular middle name.

Leannabanana · 09/04/2009 19:22

Rose is a popular middle name bit i believe there is a reason for this and that is that it really finishes off a name and makes it sound feminine but not too girly....i love roses too. had the most amazing roses in my wedding bouquet and it always makes me think of those....

belgo · 09/04/2009 19:29

I had red roses as my wedding bouquet, dh choose them. Very pretty.

Leannabanana · 09/04/2009 19:42

i had beautiful cream roses with tiny pinky peach tea spray roses and asparagus fern....all wrapped in black ribbon....very 1940's....oh i loved that bouquet sooo much....anyway we digress....
