I know, I know, a dog's name, right? I can live with those comments.

But my concern is school teasing along the lines of Sexy Rexy (and what if he wasn't?!). Overheard a couple of old boys in the post office, one said to the other "Sexy Rexy - those days are gone, eh Rex?". Rex looked slightly wistful.

I think it's a great strong name, but am I totally deluded? Would continue a theme with DS1's name...

and sexy Rexy would be no bad thing in his teens ... imagine all the girls who fancy him ... "ooh, you had Sex with rex!! Sexy Rexy! What i'd give to have sex with Rex" and so on. He'd be quite the stud.

I went to school with a Josh Rex. Everyone, everyone loved him and I'm sure his super-cool name had some bearing on that.

I really like it - think it's a cool name. Doesn't make me think of a dog at all - there are much more canine names out there.

Theme is not pooches, but kings.

I think I'd quite fancy a Rex if I met one now ;)

My dad was called Rex. Comes from latin for king I believe.

He was named it because his mum was sick of his elder siblings names being shortened. Mind you my uncle was called Latimer Douglas - he called himself Doug by choice! LOL

I would avoid it because it's just too much of a dog's name. Even more so than Max.

Oysterpots - 3 years late to this thread, I realise, but... did you name your son Rex? Just found out we're having a boy and I have my heart set on Rex, I love it, plus it was my husband's grandfather's name. If you decided to use it, are you happy with your decision three years on?! Hoping the answer is yes!

It was a dogs name when I was a child, we had a dog called Rex.

But not these days.

I love it and would definitely use it.

I never worry about how a child is going to grow into their name, they invariably do. But I like a name to sound pleasant to be spoken aloud to the one you love. Endearing, if you see what I mean, not like a 'telling off'.

Rex to my ears sounds really harsh.
