Is Freya hugely popular?

At the baby group I attended yesterday, six of the seven baby girls were called Freya. Two pairs even had the same middle names (May/Mae, Rose). I assume most of them will be attending the same village school, too...

I've only met one Freya before becoming a parent, and now there seem to be loads of tiny Freyas about - am I living in some strange Freya nexus, or is this a new trend sweeping the nation?! No name stats printed for last year, so I can't look to see if the name has jumped massively upwards...

I've noticed quite a few about.

At 6 out of seven in your group though. Gosh that is popular!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 28/03/2009 09:32

Yes, and it's hideous too. (imo)

tiggerlovestobounce · 28/03/2009 09:34

I think there are a lot of Freyas about. I like the name.

edam · 28/03/2009 09:36

There are two Freyas in ds's class at school. May and Rose are incredibly popular as middle names - they are the 'Louise' of today.

my friend has a freya but shes the onky one I know I think. Considered it for DS but didnt work with surname and he was a he... lol

RunningGirl · 28/03/2009 09:58

I only know 2 who are under 5 and one who is 35! Know loads and loads of girls with the middle names May and Rose, paired with all sorts of first names.

Nancy66 · 28/03/2009 10:02

Yes, very and puzzlingly so as I too think it's an awful name.

RachieB · 28/03/2009 19:06

only know of one

I am not keen either

ohdearwhatamess · 28/03/2009 19:15

I only know one, and she is 13 years old. None in the local school or any toddler/baby groups we go to.

frazzledoldbag · 29/03/2009 11:12

I know about 3. Not keen on it I have to say, but am amazed at 6 out of 7 girls being called it. That'll be fun for the teacher when they all go to school together! How strange.

Lilyloo · 29/03/2009 11:26

I really like Freya don't know of anyone called it though.

I have a Freya, it is a lovely name!

However, she is 4 and want to be called Sharpay

We don't know any others.

6 out of 7 at a group is loads, for any name. Very weird
