What about all those American girls names that sound like boys names, place names or surnames?

Things like Tyler, Taylor, Ashley, Ashton, Scout, Bristol, Atlanta, Harlow, Finley, Harper etc to name but a few.

They seem to be very big on it over there but it doesn't really seem to have caught on to such an extent over here yet. But I suppose it will eventually.

What do you think? I think some can sound OK but others - I mean Bristol is pushing it a bit surely?

It does make a change to see a baby name thread that is picking on Americans rather than the British underclasses .

I really dont get why people get so annoyed about another person's choice of name for their child.

There are always the utter extremes but apart from those - why bother?

Well both of my daugters have somewhat unusual names.
The elder one's name I first encountered whilst working over in the USA some years ago. In fact our second daughters name would have been another name fron the USA but it would have given her the initials BO, not good. Her actual name is of English origin. The simple fact we love both of their names and that what matters to us.

ds1 had a Jamison (girl) in his class. At first I thought it was a little but it grew on me and really seemed to fit her.
