Jamie Oliver

We really like Oliver James if a boy. Is this a problem, what with Jamie Oliver? He will be known as Oliver (Ollie) and not Oliver-James, and we will announce his birth with his full name eg Oliver James Smith.

Thoughts?

Not a problem at all I think.The Oliver James/Jamie Oliver connection wouldnt even occur to me, and most people he comes across wont even know his middle name.

Not a problem IMO i wouldnt think there was a link if you told me his name. If you like it go for it.

I like it. I don't think it will be a problem at all. Anyway whats the chance of JO still being around when your son is grown? He will have been replaced by a younger, hipper celeb chef, probably called Callum or Tyler or something.

I think it us fine. I wouldnt even make the connection. As long as it is not the other way around. Nice name.

My son is called Oliver James and we have had a few 'jamie oliver' comments, but like SSSSBTSS says, by the time he is older Jamie Oliver won;t matter

I think the name Oliver James is lovely btw, not that i am biased at all

But i will warn you (and i kind of wish someone had warned me) there are loads of Olivers around atm, there was 6 in the group we used to go to including another OJ

We are preparing for the amount of Olivers, and have looked extensively to try to find another name we like as much! I'm actually hoping it's a girl as I'm pretty sure Oliver will be the no.1 name this year.

I live in Stamford, but the group that had so many Olivers was in Bourne (both in Lincolnshire)

There's also the vaguely famous psychologist and author Oliver James if that bothers you.

I don't think I'm that bothered ... who goes around saying "this is my son, Oliver James", surely they are just known by their first names?

MsSpentYouth how come so many people at his nursery etc all know the children's middle names?

Or I am just being green and mummies discuss their children's middle names?

I actually do call DS Oliver James, or OJ, and another mum said to me 'oh my sons middle name is James too' That is why i know there is another Oliver James.

It would seem you are making me out to be a liar when i was just trying to help.

I am about to be a first time mum so just wondered whether middle names were something mummies discussed, I honestly didn't know. If you call your son Oliver James or OJ then it makes sense as to why you got the Jamie Oliver comments.

Let's not argue when we both clearly have such good taste!

most children called oliver have james or george as a middle name everyone always asks about middle names to differentiate lol, so mine is oliver george, and the other one is always oliver james. no one has ever made any jamie oliver comment tbh, but we did know a girl called georgia oliver, and that caused much hilarity between the dcs.... not that her middle name was oliver (a boy's name - long story) but because it was like ds1's but the other way around. funny old world.

Interesting .. is this other people's experience? I always thought that he would be Oliver A to differentiate rather than Oliver James.

Although it seems Oliver James is not a problem for most people and they wouldn't make the connection/don't think it is a big deal, I am fussy and might not go for Oliver James if he will be called this on a day-to-day basis, as it did attract comments for MsSpentYouth.

It is my first so want his name to be perfect!!

Aah - very cute with the kids comparing their names the other way around!!

that was in a 'play' context between parents rather than at school tbh - i think at school it probably was oliver a/b/ surname letter... bit too weird for us mummies in the playpark trying to get them all under control though...

although now i've got a horde i do indeed stand at the edge of the playpark and holler 'right children, home!'
