I like Monica and Mona would be a good shortening.

Maude seems a bit too short, might go well with another name.

SuperBunny · 21/03/2009 00:39

Yes to both. I prefer Maude but I know a 3 yr old Mona who is lovely.

tigerdriver · 21/03/2009 00:41

Maude (come into the garden). A bit 19th century? Probably not.

Mona. Nice, I know a Mona. Seems a grown up name for a baby though.

TwoIfBySea · 21/03/2009 01:18

What about Morna? Gaelic for beloved and name of my best friend in high school, not that this should be a deciding factor!

Thunderduck · 21/03/2009 01:42

Noooo and noooo.

Clement · 21/03/2009 02:08

hmmm. merle?

thumbwitch · 21/03/2009 02:15

what Thunderduck said. Sorry.
Not keen on Morna either.
(it's saying them out loud that does it for me - Moaner and Mourner - and I just don't like Maud/e)

chefswife · 21/03/2009 03:15

neither

wat about matilda?

nooka · 21/03/2009 04:31

I'm with Thumbwitch. Too moany sounding for me.

seeker · 21/03/2009 05:57

"Seems a grown up name for a baby though."

Good. She's only going to be a baby for a couple of years - she'll be a grown up for 80!

foxytocin · 21/03/2009 06:04

Maude. sounds v. good on french girls.

RachieB · 21/03/2009 09:15

Maude is too old lady for me
Mona is ok but will be called "Moany Moaner"and other names ! lol

WowOoo · 21/03/2009 09:16

Like Mona a lot. Maude makes me think of Maudlin, but it is sweet.

LynetteScavo · 21/03/2009 09:21

My mum used to teach a Mona. Apparently she moaned a lot. My mum used to laugh about how she lived up to her name.

Maude reminds me of maudlin too.

Now there's a name; Maude Lynn.

Littlefish · 21/03/2009 09:24

I prefer Maude to Mona (Moaner!), but if I'm honest, I think that Maude is still an old lady name.

purepurple · 21/03/2009 14:02

"Hey Mona!"

jellybeans · 22/03/2009 15:53

CrushWithEyeliner · 22/03/2009 16:03

I like Mona - reminds me of Mona Lisa never heard of the Vampire I wouldn't worry about that at all

wotulookinat · 22/03/2009 16:06

Hey Mona, ooooooooooh Mona....

Just reminds me of that Craig McLaughlan song.

Buda · 22/03/2009 16:10

Don't like Mona.

Love Maude. Ggglimpopo's lovely DD was called Maude - hence the 'Mile for Maude' walks to raise money for SIDs. She died aged 2 of cot death. No more nasty comments about the name please. I know most of you may not have known.

cupofteaplease · 22/03/2009 17:19

Like Maude- don't like Mona.

piscesmoon · 22/03/2009 17:34

Moaning Mona!
Maude is one of those horrible old ladies names like Winifred, Elsie and Ethel.
