Which is best...Jacob or Luca?

I won't go into my reasons for this - it is for a baby boy though!

I just really would love to hear which one people prefer...for a baby, a boy and a man!

Jacob
or
Luca

Thanks

Luka. Dr Kovac from ER.

LynetteScavo · 12/03/2009 22:43

Luca

LittleMissWorryHead · 12/03/2009 22:44

Well it would be Luca rather than Luka as dh is italian....

Jacob is my favourite but i think it is more common too.

Luca is nice as well but prefer luca.

My boys have very traditional and popular names, choice them because i like them and they suit them.

dizzydixies · 12/03/2009 22:46

if you have italian connections then Luca is lovely

nickschick · 12/03/2009 22:50

luca definitely - lovely name

paddingtonbear1 · 12/03/2009 22:51

I like both but would go for Luca.

They are both lovely.

But I do know a girl called Luca ( although I would always have thought it was a boy name)

Luca is my favourite of the two but they're both nice.

screamingabdab · 12/03/2009 23:04

Love Luca
Like Jacob (which poss. more flexible as can be shortened to Jake when he's older)

Brangelina · 12/03/2009 23:14

Noooo, Luca is really naff and screams unimaginative. It's amazingly common, a sort of Italian Jack, every other little boy/teenager/man is called that here. Also, imo it doesn't sound very pleasant pronounced in an English accent - I've heard it screeched across many a UK shopping centre, often with a silent c to boot (as in Loooo'a!).

Jacob is much nicer, or if you want Italian, why not Jacopo or Giacomo?

Concordia · 12/03/2009 23:21

i knew a gianluca (hope i have spelt correctly, apologies to all italians if not)
i like the name Luca, prefer it to Jacob, which i consider a bit bland.

boodleboot · 13/03/2009 09:42

Luca. jacob sounds harsh to my ears just MO tho...

LittleMissWorryHead · 13/03/2009 09:49

OK, i did go into my reasons for this on another thread (baby name regret) - appreciate every ones views, it hasn't helped at all!!

mloo · 13/03/2009 09:54

Jacob, Luca sounds half-hearted & wimpy 4 a boy (just mho).

Prosecco · 13/03/2009 10:05

Ok, I should have said this yesterday.

Luca- nice and soft for a baby.

Luca/Jacob- for a little scamp of a boy.

Luca/Jacob- for a teenager. Both nice but he'll probably be known as Moptop or Jazzy or some other ridiculous name teenagers invent for each other.

Jacob- for a man ( which he will hoefully be for many more years than he was a boy).

Do you see where I'm going with this, LittleMissWorryHead?

Hope you feel better soon.

RachieB · 13/03/2009 16:20

Luca definitely

Supercherry · 13/03/2009 18:13

Jacob for all 3.

EdwardBear · 13/03/2009 18:15

Luca, especially if your DH is Italian.

LittleMissWorryHead · 13/03/2009 19:08

Thanks Prosecco - I totally see where you are going

I have been trying to imagine my (strapping, 6ft big) husband as a Jacob or a Luca, but it just has me in fits of giggles...

Its good to know that its the italian Jack though - the plan is to move to Italy at some point so its very important....
