Just curious - How do parents pronounce Amelie - is the A pronounced as in 'cat' or 'I am', or is it A as in 'father' (ie more like an 'open up and say Ahh' sound ?)
Thanks v much!

Love it, as well as Amelia.
If i have a girl not sure if i'll use it because they are both becoming quite popular names of the moment. both very beautiful.
might change my mind as i keep coming back to Amelie.

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 11/03/2009 14:23

If my son (4) has his way, I might have a daughter in law called Amelie one day!

also know an Amelia. It is pretty, but for some reason I don't like it as much.

I know 3! My friend, who is a midwife, says that it has become a real favourite recently. It is lovely.

chaya5738 · 11/03/2009 19:37

I thought it was supposed to be pronounced like "Um-a-lee." That it how it is pronounced in the French film "Amelie" anyway...I love the name.

On ceebeebies today there were 5 birthday cards read out on screen, two of which were for little girls called Amelie. My friend has also got a little Amelie who's nearly one. Check out the Bounty top 100 girls name list to see how many have been registered in either 2008 or 9 and then you can see how popular it may be.

RachieB · 13/03/2009 16:27
