DC4 due in Sept, Dh has the job of picking a name for him/her (we will find out sex beforehand)

He really likes the name Benjamin. I do too, and it goes well with the other DCs names. Problem is, our surname begins with J!

So is calling a child Benjamin J--- going to mean the poor kid has a life of BJ jokes??

Oh, and I realise that it could be a girl, in which case none of this matters!!

Hmmm - maybe. Not sure it matters if you give him a middle name though. No-one thinks about initials apart from at my school we had to have them sewn onto our gyn kit.

Stretch · 09/03/2009 15:50

Oooh, MN went down then, scary!!

We will give him a middle name. I never really use the other DCs initials either.

Go for it - I like the name Ben.

MrsMattie · 09/03/2009 15:52

I like it. Bens are always nice people

Sidge · 09/03/2009 15:53

I don't think the BJ thing will be too much of a problem unless you give him a double barrelled first name, like Benjamin-James; he would then get it shortened to BJ!

I like Benedict as well.

Stretch · 09/03/2009 16:04

I love the name because it can be shortened to 'proper' names!
I like Benji for a baby, Benjamin for when he's being told off and I have that voice, and Ben for when he's a grumpy teenager!

Benedict is nice, but DH won't like that and he's choosing the name!

We have a Ben - he's cool! Lovely name

LouMacca · 09/03/2009 17:01

Yes, love Ben (and Benjamin). Twas my name until SIL stole it so now we have a Daniel.

Knax · 09/03/2009 20:36

Like benjamin, but would be concerned about BJ jokes - sorry.

sazlocks · 09/03/2009 20:37

love the name but also think BJ not a good combination !

angrypixie · 09/03/2009 20:50

We have a Ben (just Ben after I was told by a Bendict that he went to hell & back being called Bendy-Dick). Would be a bit wary of the BJ though.

Stretch · 09/03/2009 20:59

Bendy-dick!!

Sorry! So, about equal then? It'll only be when he is at secondary school that it'll be a problem though? Or hopefully later??

Can kids be that cruel? He will probably have ginger hair too so am I just giving kids more fuel?

Ben is one of the most popular names I have come across (work in a playgroup). I have lost count of the number I know.

paolosgirl · 09/03/2009 21:11

I love Ben and Benjamin, and it's not common around here at all. The BJ jokes would def. put me off - why make his teenage years any harder (fnarr fnarr) than they will naturally be?!

HeyMa · 09/03/2009 21:16

Ben/Benjamin great names and work for every age....having ginger/red hair will only make him even more cool!!!

MartiniGirl · 11/03/2009 16:54

My Benjamin is Benjamin Joseph - I couldn't care less about BJ jokes...tbh it never occured to me until recently and he is 5!!

I think Ben Joseph is cool

Supercherry · 11/03/2009 20:16

I do love the name Benjamin and Ben, but yes the initial would stop me from using it I think. Shame.

drivingmecrackers · 11/03/2009 20:29

my brother is a BJ, and has never as far as I'm aware been subject to BJ jokes.
