"Fruits" is my first response but actually it's very pretty as a girl's name.

lljkk · 07/03/2009 18:03

I immediately thought of the stone. I quite like it, tres cool, but you can see how it might be received by others!

Theresa · 07/03/2009 18:16

Not sure I'm afraid, I thought of the car. Might grow on me?

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 18:20

I prefer Topaz.....but when I suggested that everyone hated it!
Still like it tho

CuppaTeaJanice · 07/03/2009 18:26

I think the stone is supposed to be unlucky...

Is she due in October?

MrsMattie · 07/03/2009 18:49

Awful!

Ivykaty44 · 07/03/2009 18:50

Unlucky, unless born in October

Ivykaty44 · 07/03/2009 18:50

It is of course the eurpoean equivilent to astra

Podrick · 07/03/2009 18:51

oh god no - v unlucky

dinkymum · 21/03/2009 23:05

I like it didnt know it was unlucky.

ilovesweets · 21/03/2009 23:20

Would prefer Pearl, on the jewel theme!

Thunderduck · 22/03/2009 00:19

I love it. Much nicer than Pearl imho.

ivykaty, you are very naughty.

But yes, it is a car. Nice idea but would sound like Mondeo, Vectra or Impreza to me. Or possibly Capri, Montego or Zodiac. Or Viva.

thumbwitch · 22/03/2009 01:55

It's in the same category as Ruby and Pearl - a bit off my radat but not bad.

And the car is spelt OPEL, people. and it's a manufacturer, not a model (same as Vauxhall)

solowitch · 22/03/2009 02:55

I said the 'unlucky' thing to a jeweler once and he told me that it's considered unlucky because it is a porous stone and often crumbles when it has become too wet, therefore the stone is then no more...That's unlucky!
Not sure about a baby being called that though.

RachieB · 22/03/2009 09:13

i quite like it !

BelleWatling · 23/03/2009 13:46

I LOVE Opal - it was on my girls list but poo-pooed by hubby. It is the name of a little girl character in A Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler. Opals would be quirky, creative and glamorous. If you're hoping for an accountant, maybe give it a miss. If you're someone who worries what other people think about your child's name it might not be right either. I don't and as a consequence get all sorts of funny looks when I tell them what my son's (perfectly normal imho) name is.
