Roscoe.

posh but not pretentious
unusual but not wtf
quirky like 0 and 0
Scottish

Lysander is nice but a bit poetic. I see his long fingers and think how beautiful they must look playing the piano. I bet he always carries foolscap and a biro around, to jot down his thoughts.

Campbell is ok. Bit too soupy for me! sorry. I don't like Erin for the same reason.

If not Roscoe, then Bruce (after Parry not springsteen) and Donald or Victor. Victor not Scottish, but it has a lot of good attitute. Not bad attitude!

Did you go off Grey short for Gregor?

TheThoughtPolice · 07/03/2009 16:41

Victor is a terrifying name for a little boy

SmallShips · 07/03/2009 16:45

Please not Victor!

Grey is nice.

LiffeyAndFriends · 07/03/2009 16:49

Is Victor so different from Oscar or Jasper or Caspar?

Is it not in the same style, but a bit more individual, a bit further ahead of the fashion curve?

I love the name Roscoe. Mostly because of the song by Midlake.

LiffeyAndFriends · 07/03/2009 16:51

I wish I'd thought of Roscoe myself for my own mcboy.

MrsMattie · 07/03/2009 18:52

Grey? Oh God, no.

Roscoe is quirky. Not my cup of tea, but I can see the atrraction. Ros is not a good nn for a boy, though.

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 20:54

I know of a wee boy called Grey and have to admit my first thought was

what a horrible colour to name a child after

schneebly · 07/03/2009 20:56

choose Donald it is a great name!

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 21:16

Ah thanks Liffey I'm so touched you've started a thread all for me!
I love Roscoe but will have to work on DH I think. It sounds good with our surname too.
Still like Campbell, but have gone right off Dougray (which would be Gray for short).
Currently liking Billy (obv short for William) - not sure where that has come from and probably a short-lived fad! DH is still insisting on Hamish or Rory but I've really gone off both - esp Rory due to that dreadful 'Rory the racing car' programme that drives me nuts every morning during breakfast (DD2 loves it)
Bruce - no, it's a close friend of ours so would be too weird
Nothing beginning with V as initials would be silly with our surname
Am unsure about Lysander now too
Was thinking of stealing Hector off the other thread, with Tor for short.....quite like that
I also like Heath. DH doesn't, especially as one of the middle names will be Keith!
Why are boys names so bloody hard!

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 22:00

Hector and Heath are FAB

what about Hugo?

cece · 07/03/2009 22:07

I am loving Victor, pops off to add it to my list...

MsBeauregarde · 08/03/2009 21:49

I love Victor too. Not Scottish but does it have to be?!

I love Gregor with Grey for short. That makes more sense to me than Dougray really. I like Dougray, but I prefer Gregor. What does your husband think of Gregor?

I love Roscoe Gregor. Oh, just give birht and then while they are stiching you up say " his name is......."

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 22:04

MsBearegarde can't have Victor as V would be silly as an intital with my surname.
Dh not keen on Gregor (and it makes me think of a gay man, not sure why TBH???!)
I like Roscoe a lot but DH just says it makes him think of the sheriff in the Dukes of Hazard (Roscoe P Coletrane I think his name was?) so he has dismissed it. Boo.

And ahem, stitches??? I hope not

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 22:07

dizzy I quite like HEATH but as i said, not with middle name of Keith (which we will have as one of the names) for family reasons.
And we have a Hugo already in the family so that's a no-go.
Not so sure about Hector now.....DH seems to think it would be cruelty.

MsBeauregarde · 08/03/2009 22:13

Tell your husband he's showing his age, mind you, he'd have said Roscoe Tanner if he were really old!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 14:06

Heath Keith would have a certain ring to it

Hector it is then, love it!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 09/03/2009 14:27

Frazz and dizzydixies

I LOVE Heath Keith, if your surname was Neath a la a friend of mine so much the better......

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 14:37

hell grumpy [waves] thanks for visiting my thread! Glad you like Heath Keith. Our surname is actually Sleath. No kidding.

No it's not but wouldn't it be wonderful if it was!

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 14:38

that should have said 'hello' grumpy not hell!
oops

thumbwitch · 09/03/2009 14:42

whatabout Horatio? not v. Scottish tho.
or Harland?
surely the short form of Roscoe would be Ross, not Ros, which is a good Scottish name anyway, isn't it? (could be wrong about the Scottish bit of course...)

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 14:53

I like Horatio (but am second guessing a thumbs-down from the DH)
Harland - that's an interesting one as that's an old family name .......... but not sure about using it as a first name, what would it be shortened to in the playground - 'Har'?
DH still thinks Roscoe is silly. I think he is silly. Stalemate.
[boo to DH]
Have just been on the Wolf thread, and am now liking Wolfgang.
[no snorting with derision please, save that for DH]

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 15:33

frazzle don't be ridiclious, we all know if you're Scottish or have married a Scot your surname is obviously McSleath

oh, and behave yourself with the wolfgang, no offence but if he's a wee slip of a lad who likes model planes and computing rather than rugby he's in for a bit of a hard time of it

the reason I couldn't call my 10lber Grace or my 11lber Lily

brimfull · 09/03/2009 15:37

I'm with your dh,Hamish is a fab name.

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 16:17

anyone said Lachlan?

I know a Pharic which is gaelic for Peter

belgo · 09/03/2009 16:18

What about Duncan?
