Flower names - views on whether to continue the trend?

We are expecting number 4 and suspect it may be a girl. I have two DDs, both of whom are named after flowers. While it would be nice to continue the theme, a part of me worries about it being a bit naff. Although I suppose it only comes to light when calling them all, eg when in the playground. But also, I am starting to run out of nice options (not nice options being things like Hyacinth or Petunia, in my book - no offence intended to anyone who has DDs named Hyacinth or Petunia ). Would be grateful for any thoughts on whether you think it completely awful to continue with the theme, and (if not) what flower names there are which are nice for girls.

Another vote for Violet here!

Or you could try:
Tansy (a type or aster)
Elodie (marsh flower)
Clover
Eliza - the flower girl in Dr Dolittle!
Lila ( like Lilac)

what do you think or those?

Chappers11 · 09/03/2009 23:12

I think Iris is lovely and my friend's young daughter Florence sounds so sweet shortened to 'Flo'.

I am having a similar dilema. Our DD is Scarlet, we are torn about whether Amber is too colour themed for our second girl due in May, (if indeed 'it' is a girl, we don't know,) but it's the only name we both agree we like!

stayinbed · 09/03/2009 23:29

try shrubbery and call her Jasmine?

stayinbed · 09/03/2009 23:30

Violet is a very pretty name

angrypixie · 09/03/2009 23:37

Another vote for tansy, dc3 would have been eliza tansy, only she was a boy :-)

squanderedzeitgeist · 10/03/2009 05:55

dd is called Violet - I love it. I too have your dilemma as I am expecting again and, if a girl, am wondering what would go with Violet. My personal favourite is Pearl, I think that's gorgeous, continuing the natural and old-fashioned theme but without being a flower. Don't know if I can win dh round on this though, or Iris, which I think is very pretty too.

squanderedzeitgeist · 10/03/2009 05:59

not that names have to necessarily 'go' of course....

belgo · 10/03/2009 06:55

I didn't go for matching flower names for my girls. There are so many lovely names out there, it's nice to go for something very different.

Leannabanana · 10/03/2009 08:20

i love PEARL....brilliant name....was looking for a middle name for the girls name we have chosen and starting to go off it as i couldn't find one that was perfect but i think you may have just saved the name squanderedzeitgeist....thanks....x

pippibluestocking · 10/03/2009 08:28

Iris
Fleur
Flora

MoshiMoshi · 10/03/2009 21:37

Thank you all for your ideas. These threads get so long that names come back on a loop though and names that have been discounted get suggested again! I think we have a good idea now so all input has been much appreciated. Many thanks!

Willow?

LOVE Iris ( mummyfor3, have niece called this)
HATE Chloe (sorry to your DH)

wheesht · 10/03/2009 23:37

dd1 has a friend called Hebe. Wasn't sure if I liked it at first but absolutely love it (and her) now. Very unusual and very beautiful, just as she is

Fimbo · 11/03/2009 00:02

Jasmine

Florentine

hayzbetts · 11/03/2009 09:20

I like the name Poppy and I love Rose, was going to have it as a middle name for mine. I also like Lily and for some reason Blossom lol

Josiepie · 11/03/2009 18:22

My DD is Erica - not obviously floral but is actually the latin name for heather.

strictmumof3 · 11/03/2009 18:36

What lovely names you have already.

On a flower theme i like:
Daisy
Violet
Holly
Blossom
Briar
Myrtle

Or if you wanted to go old fashioned then:
Mabel
Harriet
Martha

Good luck

CalaLilly · 11/03/2009 18:51

I've not read the whole thread but has anyone suggested Calla-Lilly? I've always thought that was lovely and pretty- hence my username!

Leannabanana · 12/03/2009 07:29

wheesht - how do you pronounce Hebe please?

randomname · 12/03/2009 17:12

Hebe is pronounced Heebee (like phoebe)

Concordia · 12/03/2009 23:15

My grandmother was one of seven (I think) sisters and one brother. All the sisters were given flower / plant names (although presumably they were born in the 1910s/20s.
As far as I recall they were
Rose
Olive
Myrtle
Violet
Iris
Ivy
Lily
Hope i have got this right, was not the most attentive at family gatherings as a child.
I'm not a huge fan of flower names myself (was something of a tomboy as a child and would have hated to have one) but i don't think the concept is naff at all, it's rather sweet.
i'm not keen on lily, daisy or poppy but i do like violet and iris.

Julesnobrain · 12/03/2009 23:28

Sorel - not a flower but a herb. Lovely name

tigerdriver · 12/03/2009 23:31

Concordia

What lovely names.

Only problem, no Snowdrop (only joking, I am the only person in the universe who would seroiusly call a child Snowdrop)

What was there brother, presumably Albert, Henry or the like?

Woollymummy · 12/03/2009 23:35

Bryony

angrypixie · 13/03/2009 16:34

I've taught a snowdrop, but everyone calls her Snowy!!!
