Flower names - views on whether to continue the trend?

We are expecting number 4 and suspect it may be a girl. I have two DDs, both of whom are named after flowers. While it would be nice to continue the theme, a part of me worries about it being a bit naff. Although I suppose it only comes to light when calling them all, eg when in the playground. But also, I am starting to run out of nice options (not nice options being things like Hyacinth or Petunia, in my book - no offence intended to anyone who has DDs named Hyacinth or Petunia ). Would be grateful for any thoughts on whether you think it completely awful to continue with the theme, and (if not) what flower names there are which are nice for girls.

weepootle: you are lovely. Thanks for the kind comments. I do appreciate these in my pregnancy addled state (cannot make a decision on anything at the moment!) After the Flora debacle, am now back onto Poppy etc. I have to think about my mum's ability to pronounce names too as she is Vietnamese (eg Violet would be tricky).

Good point moshi, I remember trying it out on dh and he said "no way- at school she'll get the old, Flora spreads [legs] comments" .

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 06/03/2009 21:06

posey and flora both good because obviously "flowery" but not the name of a flower iyswim....

dahlia is FAB
pansy

willow
lettice
holly

... would fit but not too obviously "themed"

Ponders · 06/03/2009 21:07

Nigella

We have friends with DD's Lily, Rosie and Zinnia - I love Zinnia (Zinny for short) but DH vetoed it.

dizzydixies · 06/03/2009 21:07

I love Iris

you could use somthing like Willow or Summer and make it into a nature theme rather that flowery?

Fleur
Pearl
Misty
Honey
Oceana
Clementine
Fern
Skye

sorry I'm getting carried away now, Poppy is lovely too

'lo Dizzy

Ponders · 06/03/2009 21:09

Florence nns used to be Floss or Flossie as much as Flo or Florrie.

How about Pansy?

MoshiMoshi · 06/03/2009 21:10

weepootle: That made me laugh! I like your DH's sense of humour (ie school-boy!)

controlfreaky: I knew a Dahlia and cannot disassociate (never liked her much unfortunately). Not sure about having a Lily and a Holly. Quite like Willow but wonder if it is too alternative for us (DH quite square, bless him).

Or Petunia...

Or Honeysuckle, like that lovely actress?

Ponders · 06/03/2009 21:11

Oh sorry, overlooked that you discounted Petunia in your OP

weepootle · 06/03/2009 21:12

Aww thanks . I recently had to name my dd2 and know what you mean about your sensitive preg state, some comments are tough to take and feel very personal.

I am very honest on baby name threads though, would never say I like something that I don't.

Lilyloo · 06/03/2009 21:13

I think another flower name would be lovely
Belle
Iris
Heather
Holly
Jasmine
Bryony
Camelia
Fern
Violet

PurplePoppy · 06/03/2009 21:14

Ivy?

CatchaStar · 06/03/2009 21:14

Lily, Rose and Poppy/Posey/Daisy?

I love Poppy and Posey

fin42 · 06/03/2009 21:16

I love Iris.
And what about Jasmine.

NutterlyUts · 06/03/2009 21:22

I think Iris will work, as you can argue that you haven't picked flower names, but gone for 1940s/50s classic names

MoshiMoshi · 06/03/2009 21:25

Thanks, Lilyloo. Feeling bolder about continuing the flower theme now. Is somehow easier to discuss this with strangers as would never raise the topic with family/friends! Much better to give them the name you have chosen and not to get their opinions... I liked Belle but DH didn't. Heather is MIL's name (so, "no" obviously!) Others have other associations already either because of friends' kids or celebrities (Fern with the gastric band!)

fin42: DH not keen on Iris unfortunately. Know a Jasmine already and I am not keen on using names already used either as middle names or by friends or family. I can't disassociate and like to keep them "sacred".

DH's response when I said "Willow" - "noooo way!" Confirmed my earlier comment.

Lilyloo · 06/03/2009 21:35

Alyssa
April

Autumn
Summer

beanieb · 06/03/2009 21:38

would you consider Isis? Not quite iris, maybe a bit out there?

MoshiMoshi · 06/03/2009 22:04

Lilyloo: Damn these DHs.

Fleur.... a possibility. Except DH just said "nahhh".

April - I know a horse called April.

beanieb: why does Isis make me think of rowing. I am sure you can take a wild guess at what my DH just said too...

Sidge · 06/03/2009 22:12

I know a Briar which I think is quite pretty.

Other flowery names - Daisy, Poppy, Primula, Posey, Holly, Aster, Fleur, Tulip, Blossom, Pansy.

tigerdriver · 06/03/2009 22:15

Have a friend with a Hebe. Lovely name.

I am v keen on Snowdrop - just think it would be lovely for a winter baby. These are gorgeous names.

Honeysuckle or Primrose are lovely too.

However, had I had a girl I would have called her Harriet.
