Flower names - views on whether to continue the trend?

We are expecting number 4 and suspect it may be a girl. I have two DDs, both of whom are named after flowers. While it would be nice to continue the theme, a part of me worries about it being a bit naff. Although I suppose it only comes to light when calling them all, eg when in the playground. But also, I am starting to run out of nice options (not nice options being things like Hyacinth or Petunia, in my book - no offence intended to anyone who has DDs named Hyacinth or Petunia ). Would be grateful for any thoughts on whether you think it completely awful to continue with the theme, and (if not) what flower names there are which are nice for girls.

oooh, I think Iris and Violet are lovely
(I buy Flora too - didn't want to bring it up .. although it's still a lovely name!)

what about
Olive
Holly

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 07/03/2009 00:01

like tansy v much...

tigerdriver · 07/03/2009 00:28

tansy is a pretty name but a smelly flower?

ninedragons · 07/03/2009 01:22

Sorry, I think themed siblings are a bit naff. They remind me of the Duggars. You start off with a perfectly sensible Jennifer and James, and by the time you've popped out 18 kids you're down to Jumpin' Jehosophat.

If you're set on it, Hazel would be branching out a bit (boom boom!)

tigerdriver · 07/03/2009 01:23

or elma

nooka · 07/03/2009 04:04

I think an obvious flower (like Daisy or Poppy) would be really naff. Sorry! Fine for a series of dogs or cats, but not right for children. All your names are quite traditional, so I would just choose another traditional name that you like, it will go well with the names of all your children. Choosing something to go with a theme isn't choosing a name that will suit your soon to be dd, and that should surely be the most important thing? Also what if you have more children?

Lily, Rose, Tommy and Elizabeth (Lizzy, Beth etc)?
Lily, Rose, Tommy and Emma
Lily, Rose, Tommy and Frances

All nice, and there are many more to choose from. If you must do a flower then at least go for a more subtle connection, like Anthea, Briony, Delphine, Jolanta, Laura or Susan (Susanna means Lily in ancient Hebrew and Rose in modern!)

I like Iris and Violet!

LiffeyAndFriends · 07/03/2009 16:46

cappucine is a monkey isn't it?!!?

Or a hood or a type of monk?
I know Cappucine monks are named for their capuchas (hoods).

I hadn't heard of it as a flower.

Springhassprung · 07/03/2009 16:50

Verity would go well

MoshiMoshi · 07/03/2009 20:16

Thanks for the replies everyone. It has been really useful getting all of this feedback!

how about Lilac....thats lovely.x

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 07/03/2009 20:38

I think if you've got two flower names already, there's nothing wrong in having a third. My favourites are Primrose and Violet.

Capucine is French for nasturtium, by the way.

pointydog · 07/03/2009 20:43

no, do not continue with the theme. Your dds are not part of a set (or at least, that is not how they will see themselves)

MerryMarigold · 07/03/2009 22:32

Flora and Iris are great - both not very 'flowery'. I love Marigold , but maybe a bit much with your other names.

I think you should have the theme, since you have 2 already. How about a plant, tree or a herb rather than a flower? I love Laurel! Ivy? Sorrel?

dustbuster · 07/03/2009 22:41

I like Chloe a lot. I think with the names you have got already you need to go for quite a classic name. So for example I love Tansy, and seriously considered it for DD, but I think it sounds a bit hippy-ish compared to the rest of your names. Nooka's suggestions are good.

saggyhairyarse · 07/03/2009 23:43

Tansy
Josephine nn Posie
Thornley
Margeurite nn Maggie/Daisy
Willow
Jasmine
Heather
Hebe
???

lunamoon2 · 07/03/2009 23:55

I think Chloe would be very nice.
like Poppy too.
Would avoid Daisy (don't know why-just too flowery with the others?)
Alice seems to fit too.
Think you need an old/traditional name definately not one that people will say "what" to.
Just thought of another what about Jasmine?
x

MoshiMoshi · 08/03/2009 22:17

... I think Chloe might be the one... Thanks for your input everyone. Much appreciated!

We are expecting our second in July and have already picked the name Iris, We are now looking for a middle name begining with J to carry on the family tradition of j in the middle name!

MoshiMoshi · 09/03/2009 10:37

beckymc - Iris is lovely but I was so undecided as we already have three names (two girls) in the mix which seems to make it harder! We also have a middle name themes going on - all begin with A. It happened accidentally with the first two and then I felt obliged to continue it with the third. This time round, I feel as if I don't continue with it something awful will happen (eg although this is more likely to be something akin to me being confirmed a certifiable nutcase !)

Pasiphae · 09/03/2009 14:01

Celandine Alice?
Amaryllis Aster?
Ianthe Amandine?
Anemone Alcyone?
Camellia Adelie?
Clematis Adelaide?
Eglantine Agatha?
Peony Agnes?

MoshiMoshi · 09/03/2009 16:30

Pasiphae - you must have missed the bit about my mum being Vietnamese so may find pronunciation of certain names tricky which had to be taken into consideration !
