Oscar ... boy or dog?

I don't know why but I can't decide if Oscar is a good boy's name or is a common dog name? I don't even know any dogs called Oscar!
Opinions please?

rubyslippers · 06/03/2009 15:28

bamboobutton · 06/03/2009 15:28

i have a ds called Oscar, its a fab name!

never heard any dogs called oscar

shootfromthehip · 06/03/2009 15:29

I know a LOVELY Oscar who's nearly 5 and DD would have been Oscar. It's a person's name IMO, not an animal's name

LavenderStar · 06/03/2009 15:30

Or an awards ceremony. (Sorry!)

rabuxton · 06/03/2009 15:31

Yeah thought of the awards as well

Boy- I know a truly wonderful 10 yr old Oscar. Very bright & delightful child.

mrsfossil · 06/03/2009 15:43

hi my cat is called oscar but i picked it because i really liked the name. I hate pets with silly names like fluff. I think its a good name for a little boy. I'm sure there are pets out there with my 1st name or even yours so i wouldn't give it 2nd thought.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2009 15:43

don't like it much for critter or boy

tattycoram · 06/03/2009 15:53

Cat

Dh liked it but it is most definitely a pets name

Hulababy · 06/03/2009 15:55

I don't know anyone, or animal, called Oscar. I like it.

atowncalledalice · 06/03/2009 16:01

I have an Oscar! He's nearly 18 and it really wasn't a popular name back then; quite a few people told me it was a dog's name! It's not: it's my DS's name

katz · 06/03/2009 16:03

the only oscar i can think of was in neighbours and since i get ribbed at work for having children with neighbours names i like it!

ohdearwhatamess · 06/03/2009 16:16

I know (and know of) quite a few Oscar dogs. Don't think I know any Oscar people.

Only know human Oscars - great name - don't be put off!

strictmumof3 · 06/03/2009 16:59

I only know 1 Oscar, a cute litte 6 year old boy. Fab name.

randomname · 06/03/2009 17:54

My neighbours dogs are called Ruby, Alfie and Charlie- I wouldn't suggest that these were animal names just because the dogs happen to have those names! Although there is Oscar the Grouch- do muppets count?!

Oscar is a fabulous name.

Wheelybug · 06/03/2009 17:56

I used to have a hamster called Oscar. That said, we have still considered it for dc2 - I like it.

frazzledoldbag · 06/03/2009 20:04

My nephew is Oscar. Don't know any dogs called it.

annasmami · 06/03/2009 22:31

It reminds me of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street .

Tommy · 06/03/2009 22:35

in our house, it's a boy Although my friend's DH was horrified when we named him as he said "it was fine - for a dog..."

ZacharyQuack · 07/03/2009 08:55

Cat

ScummyMummy · 07/03/2009 08:56
