ds1 is called Bréagh, (pronounced bray)
we have a girls name already but cant think of a boys name that will compliment our son's. we want an irish name as our son's is irish and we dont want a name that someone we know has. any suggestions would be lovely.

Seamus? I like it. I met a woman with a Seamus the other day. He's four.

conor means king of ulster! didn't know that.

Rory is nice too.

breaghsmum · 02/03/2009 23:04

Ciaran with a northern accent isn't good! I knew an American called Carrick after Carrickfergus...

weebump · 02/03/2009 23:07

Ruarai?
Pronounced "Rooree", rather than normal old Rory.

Cúan -pronounce Coo-awn.

Setanta. Great Irish legend, (and sports channel)

What about Daithi? Irish for David? By the way MNers, how did ya all get the fadas?

breaghsmum · 02/03/2009 23:26

Ctrl + Alt gives you the fadas

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 02/03/2009 23:33

geminigirl · 02/03/2009 23:39

Thanks! Áéíoú!! It doesn't work on my 'o' though.

geminigirl · 02/03/2009 23:40

Sorry...just showing off. I've always liked Tomás as well.

DeeBlindMice · 02/03/2009 23:48

What about seoras? Gaelic rather than irish but as you're in ni the Scottish connection is strong (I am too btw although not from here)

Uisneagh has always been a bit of a fav of mine.

Caoilte? Faolain?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 02/03/2009 23:53

Has anybody said Saoirse ?

quickdrawmcgraw · 03/03/2009 00:00

I love the name Cúan (coo-an)
and also Lúan

weebump · 03/03/2009 00:02

I knew a Lorcan at college. He was a bit of a weirdy beardy!!

Be Gob, I knew a weirdy beardy Lorcan at college too! fadó fadó.

I like Setanta. Has a lot of history to it.

Uisce - meaning water, pronounced "Is-kaa"
Tiné or Aidan meaning fire, "tin-ne" or "Ay-dan"
Liath meaning rock. "lee - ath"
Tuabh meaning earth. "too-av"

DoThisDoThat · 03/03/2009 05:36

Fionn? Pronounced Fin as in Fin McCool (sp?).

Like Lorcan. I know one who is very nice and not at all a beardy weirdy.

LiffeyBag · 03/03/2009 09:14

Daithi after daithi o'shea, sexy smug git that he is.

Setanta is so cool! do it, do it! Amanda Brunker did. Mind you, she had the nerve to publish her sexual fantasies and call it a novel, so lack of nerve not an issue there!!

Lorcan is probably the most practical of the suggestions, especially if he's mixing with people who haven't read the stories of fin mcCool. (sorry for spelling).

LiffeyBag · 03/03/2009 09:16

Kerry, what about......... Castle!? After CastleGregory ;-)

I'm laughing at Carrick after CarrickFergus, because what made them overlook Fergus! I love the name Fergus.

Or Fergal. less so, though. Prefer Fergus.

Breagh's Mum, are you writing all of these down.?
