Don't lioke any of them.
Jasmine is uber chavvy.
You will spend the rest of your life saying 'Esmay, not Esmee'

Poppyscock · 28/02/2009 21:16

I think your right about the Esmay/Esme scenario

Esme would be my fave off your list but all nice!

Tinker · 28/02/2009 23:53

You'd need an accent if you wanted Es may

redsock · 01/03/2009 00:03

If you like Jasmine and Esme, then you might like Emine? (pronounced Em-in-ay)

bellabelly · 01/03/2009 00:27

I do like Scarlett but it seems to be sooooo popular these days...
I really don't like Esme but that's because I used to teach a girl called Esme and she was horrid.
Jasmine is sweet, I think.

Poppyscock · 01/03/2009 13:44

I added one more to the shortlist, Rosa, and we've decided to go with that I think

Darcey
Not keen

Jasmine
Not keen, a bit common

Esme
lovely but prefer Es-mee rather than Es-may

Scarlett
Particularly dislike, in the vein of I'm trying to be so cool but not really.

FairLadyRantALot · 01/03/2009 17:58

Darcey - love it, but prefer it spelled Darcy
Jasmine - it's o.k.
Esme - love it....but defintely pronounced Ezmee not Esmay (Esmay makes me think of dismay for some reason)
Scarlett - love it and know an extremely cute Scarlet, with a sister called Imogen (which is also a lovely name)

hedgiemum · 01/03/2009 18:52

Esme is great. Darcey is fab because of the ballerina.
Jasmine - ugh. I know a few Jasmine's of my age (30 ish) who all get shortened to Jazz so I prefer Yasmin.
Scarlett I'm not keen; Scarlett O'Hara is so self absorbed, not a great namesake imo. And the Scar sound is so harsh, your other options are all much softer.

supergluebum · 01/03/2009 18:55

Darcey - just doesn't look like a real name
Jasmine - pretty, she's good at netball and a bit of a tomboy, but could she be an investment banker?
Esme - meh
Scarlett - bleugh

nappyaddict · 13/03/2009 13:45

I like Esme the best. The other 3 are quite overused IMO.

LilysandEsmesmum · 15/03/2009 20:37

Would say Scarlett as I have an Esme (with an accent prounounced ezmay)and don't want to many other esmes tee hee x

nappyaddict · 16/03/2009 00:42

I prefer the Esm - ee pronunciation as the Esmay pronunciation is much more popular in our area.

Sibble · 16/03/2009 00:55

Esme or Scarlett

nappyaddict · 16/03/2009 00:58

Btw it should be spelt Esmée. Esmé is traditionally the masculine form and pronounced Es-may.

Desiderata · 16/03/2009 01:09

I like Darcey way and above all the others.

It's both masculine and feminine. It's extremely cool, in fact.

You'll get on in the world with a name like that.

The others are pants.
