Has Kevin surpassed naffness to enter a new era of acceptability?

I would not use the name personally, but it seems to me that a whole new raft of names have come to the fore these days, making names such as Kevin (Gary, Barry, Lee etc) seem almost quasi-respectable.

What do you think? Maybe it still needs a few more years yet.

I think maybe another 50 years should do it, by which time anyone who remembers Kevin the Teenager will either be dead or senile.

charlieandlola · 23/02/2009 19:00

No.

Littlefish · 23/02/2009 19:00

Not until hell freezes over.

Dior · 23/02/2009 19:01

NO, absolutely NOT.

TigerFeet · 23/02/2009 19:03

lol

I am married to a Kevin

I can't see it coming back tbh

Tidey · 23/02/2009 19:03

Or indeed Kevin the gerbil from Roland Rat, Lulubee

TsarChasm · 23/02/2009 19:03

It's funny though because some of those retro revived names from 60 years ago that everyone seems to be using in a post modern ironic sort of way seem to suggest that Kevin will indeed rise again

MrsSeanBean · 23/02/2009 19:04

Yes Tsar, when you have names such as Phyllis making an alleged comeback, it does make you wonder!

Susan, Janet & Linda - they'll be back too!

Hassled · 23/02/2009 19:07

I've always secretly liked the name Kevin but have managed to resist the temptation to use it. Have known some lovely Kevins - and it has a nice Irish/Gaelic ring to me.

kneedeepinthedirtylaundry · 23/02/2009 19:07

Names like Iris and Olive, Alfie and Harold seem to have make a come back, but Doris hasn't.

As for Kevin - NO NO NO NO NO

TsarChasm · 23/02/2009 19:09

I didn't realise Harold was back in action...oh.

kneedeepinthedirtylaundry · 23/02/2009 19:14

Have met two recently, both under 5.

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 19:15

I am married to a Kevin too - and we both hate it!

I like Kevin. It's a good sound.

SoupDragon · 23/02/2009 19:26

No

AliceTheCamel · 23/02/2009 19:27

Kevin will rise again, but not quite yet.

(CMP - I think Susan is due for a big revival.)

lollipopz · 23/02/2009 19:50

In the same league as Colin i think! They probably will make a come back but hopefully after my dcs give me grandlkids

shirleybradshaw · 23/02/2009 20:48

I think Kevin is fine if you're Irish or American. But just think of it said with a Brummie/Geordie/Scouse/Essex etc...
Enough said?

shirleybradshaw · 23/02/2009 20:48
