I prefer the short version of Josie- I don't know, Josephine just makes me think of an old woman in a cardigan, having a good old moan...no idea why, maybe something in my childhood?!

Absolutely love it! It's versatile, elegant, classic and still just a little bit different.

I've heard of it being shortened to Sephine too, so there are loads of different variations.

I have an Olivia too, and if I ever had another daughter (v.unlikely) Josephine would be a strong contender.

Josephine and Olivia sounds great!

I have two lovely cousins called Josephine ( on different sides of the family) and they are rarely called Josephine by anyone. One is Jo-phine and the other Josie. Be prepared for it to be rarely used if it is the long version that you like. Josie is a lovely name though, I's have used it myself if it weren't for all the Josephines already in the family!

I am not keen on the name Josephine.

I quite like the shortening Josie, just not the full name.

It's a marvellous name goes nicely with Olivia too.

Really beautiful and elegant name. In my opinion, one of the best names there is. The only thing that would put me off, is that she'd probably get called Jo, which seems such a shame. Josie is sweet though, and on another post, someone said that Posy is a nickname for Josephine.

Supercherry · 25/02/2009 14:51

I love Josephine and Josey is a lovely shortening of it too
