It will sound something like:

Anna Middle name Cauldwell

So far our boy name is Elliot Ian if that provides inspiration?

We have an Anna Louise.....love Elliot Ian!

moondog · 10/02/2009 18:55

You cannot call a kid Ian.
It's frightful.

CHEQUERSmate · 10/02/2009 18:56

Thanks for the good suggestions . It is odd that such a simple name can be so tricky.

e.g.

Anna Mathilda

It is just too much!

The short names seem to look nice.

Madeleine

You need a long name after a short one and vice versa, IMO.

Why not give a middle name of someone that your DH's dad really admired or something? Did he have a hobby? Admire anyone famous? I personally think that's just as nice as being named after a grandad, the child can be told about the grandad and what their interests were and why the name has come about, rather than simply being named the same name! I do agree that Ian is a simply awful name and I'm sure a little boy (or a big one!) would hate having it as a middle name!

Sorry, I know that's not what the thread is about but......

I agree with dietcoke - Anna Louise is lovely, really classy

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/02/2009 19:50

My niece is Anna Penelope

missmapp · 10/02/2009 19:52

If we had had a girl we liked Anna Mary

LynetteScavo · 11/02/2009 16:47

Ian isn't that bad!

lastboxoftampons · 11/02/2009 17:59

I prefer a longer name for a middle name with a short first name as well:

Anna Maria
Anna Veronica
Anna Francesca
Anna Catherine

There's nothing wrong with Ian - it's a lovely name.

FlorenceAndtheWashingMachine · 11/02/2009 18:22

I think that Ian is long overdue a revival! Elliot Ian 'Cauldwell' is a good, strong name.

I would argue that middle names are the perfect opportunity to remember someone.
I have an Anna - her middle names are Victoria and Gillian. They are not my favourite names, but they remind me of the wonderful hospital which saved her life several times and my equally marvellous mum.

Middle names are very rarely used in life, but I will smile when they are read out at her graduation etc.
