DH and I disagreeing again! Both like the name (said Tee-a) but he would spell it with a TH, which to me should be pronounced Thee-a.

thoughts?

To me they are different names if you spell it Thea but say Tee-a people will think you have got mixed up and made a mistake.

Both lovely names.

Thea is a different (but IMO much nicer) name than Tia, it would be endlessly confusing.

I think Tia sounds like Tear or Teir.

ruty · 04/02/2009 11:31

Thea is nice, Tia is not IMO [Jordan's daughter is Tia-aami or something...]

Lizzylou · 04/02/2009 11:32

Thea is lovely (would have been DS2's name)
Much prefer it to Tia(pronounced Thee-a as you say)

ruty · 04/02/2009 11:35

You could pronounce Thea 'Ta-e', like the germans do...

I agree, Thea is better. Have not liked Tia since I saw a woman on telly saying she'd named her daughter Tia after the drink "Tia Maria"

Thanks everyone. Neither of us particularly likes the pronounciation THEE-a, it would definitely be TEE-a, just thinking about how to spell it.

Ruty I also like Tay-a (is that what you mean?) would probably spell that Tea with accent over E like Tea Leoni though.

I thought Thea / Tea was pronounced Tay-a?

Tia is much nicer and more straightforward, imo.

bluebump · 04/02/2009 11:59

I like Thea best

TinySocks · 04/02/2009 12:01

I don't like Tia.
BTW it means aunt in spanish.

lastboxoftampons · 04/02/2009 12:07

Yes, tinysocks I know.
Perhaps I'm just having fond flashbacks of the little girl called Tia in Escape to Witch Mountain c. 1979...she was telepathic/telekinetic - it was all very exciting!

Tia also means peace, I believe.

If you want the 'Tea-a' sound, go with Tia, if you want the 'tha-a', go with Thea.

I like them both.

JulesJules · 04/02/2009 12:53

Thea.

Tia to me means either Tia Maria or a layer of wedding cake!

RachieB · 04/02/2009 18:58

I dont like Tia or Taya but love Thea ( Thee - ah)

Norfolkbumpkin · 04/02/2009 19:09

I love the name Thea, but then I am biased because it's dd's middle name . The name is of greek origin meaning 'Goddess'. Just perfect I think.............

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2009 19:17

sweetkitty · 04/02/2009 19:21
