And pretended it was a name for future dd? Not going to personally because I know other people who mumsnet and don't want to out myself but I wonder if people would say; oooh not Mildred all Mildreds * are bitches. And then you'd know what people really think of your name.

  • Not really called Mildred.

Considering my nn not hard to work out my name so I'll post it.
My name has come up as being timeless and classic (Catherine) although I always use the shortened version (Katie).
Shortened version is very popular for girls aged about 5, I constantly hear my name shouted in shops
There never seemd to be loads of me about but my SIL is also called Katy which can get confusing!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 04/02/2009 00:13

Mine's come up a couple of times and had very positive responses.

Mamazon · 04/02/2009 00:16

i have a typical early 80's girls name. its very common and i know of a couple of Mners with the same name.

Aefondkiss · 04/02/2009 00:41

according to mitchy's link my middle name and surname "You are unique. You are one with the angry Squirrel. Shout 'I am the unique. I am unified with the badger overlord.' People will run away. That's because they're jealous. JEALOUS.."

my first name and surname - "You don't exist. Go and look in the mirror. If you see something then we're wrong else you're some kind of magic pixie, elf, carrot or vampire. Sorry."

I have met one person with the same first name as me, she was very excited I was a bit ... but my Mum decided to call me by my middle name so, I was a bit indifferent because my first name isn't really my name, if that makes any sense?

My parents were mad hippies, my brothers have unique too, but more eyebrow raising than my names.

choosyfloosy · 04/02/2009 00:50

No - I believe I know what people would say. It's mildly interesting to me that I hardly ever do see it on here - I suppose too common since about the early 80s, so now very 'out'.

differentID · 04/02/2009 00:52

My sister's name is unique (first and last name tomgether)
There are 13/14 of me in my maiden name/ married name.
My first name is Maria. Nearly 90,000 people share my name.
Don't care- they're not me.

BikeRunSki · 04/02/2009 07:58

My name is the current topic of discussion on another thread and it is "lovely but boring".

dooit · 04/02/2009 08:08

My DD doesn't exist according to that thingimie! There are no people with her name. How odd?????????

PottyCock · 04/02/2009 08:10

"You are as rare as a wombats wingnut"

ooh how exciting

EyeballsintheSky · 04/02/2009 08:11

Mine is a v popular name of the seventies, and every decade before and since for the last couple of hundred years! At least eight in every class throughout my school years, thankfully seen as classic rather than old ladyish I think. Begins with S and ends in H...with ARA in the middle!

Comment away!

EyeballsintheSky · 04/02/2009 08:14

Ha ha ha. There are 315,295 Sarahs. "There are so many of you that if world war 3 ever happens it'll just be Pot Noodles, Tescos Basics Lager, Cockroaches, Sarah 's (sic), Squirrels, Kebab meat and Volvos left on the earths scortched (sic) surface"

WhatSheSaid · 04/02/2009 08:16

Whenever my name comes up on a baby name thread it seems to be universally considered to be lovely, timeless, classic, well-known but not too popular, etc etc

Clue: It's the same name as the MNer in France who used to have "8888" after her name and now has "Bonsoir" in front of it.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 04/02/2009 08:21

someone very recently DID post my name, even after several of us said it was our name people kept saying horrendous things about it!
Tactful,much?

AnathemaDevice · 04/02/2009 09:01

WhatSheSaid, we share a name! I always feel slightly smug when I read about how lovely people think my name is, even though I had absolutely nothing to do with picking it...

thumbwitch · 04/02/2009 15:05

mitch - PMSL, ROFL etc. etc. - just put my maiden name in = unique, the squirrel etc.
Then my married name = rare as wombat's wingnut.
Then DS's name = rare as wombat's wingnut.
Then DH's name:
You don't exist. Go and look in the mirror. If you see something then we're wrong else you're some kind of magic pixie, elf, carrot or vampire. Sorry.

Admittedly he is Aussie and therefore probably not on their stats but still...

Frasersmum123 · 04/02/2009 17:06

Mine is an ever so boring, unremarkable name.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 04/02/2009 17:12

I've got an 'elderly maiden aunt' name.

nailpolish · 04/02/2009 17:12

my name is very 70's too

its quite popular amongst porn stars for some reason and was used frequently for teasing by my brother

but i like it!

lastboxoftampons · 04/02/2009 17:14

Mine comes up every so often and gets a slating. It's apparently naff and very 70's unless you're of Arabic decent in which case it's okay Not sure why the distinction! It's either a nice name or it isn't!

IRL, I've only ever gotten lovely compliments...

kayzr · 04/02/2009 17:18

My name is quite obvious from my MN name. I have never seen it mentioned on here though.

shivermetimbers · 04/02/2009 19:15

My name was unique when i was growing up but they are all over the place now.At least, the shortened version is.
everyone says what a beautiful name it is but i cant bear it.

noonki · 04/02/2009 19:31

there's only me with my first and surname,

and theres only 500 with my first name with all the various spellings

and only 8 with the spelling my parents chose

Lizzylou · 04/02/2009 19:37

I like my name now, hated it growing up.

If I search that link with my married name, I too am unique (a Squirrel), with my maiden name there are 31 of us, there was 1 girl in my year at Uni with the same name as me (different middle name tho), I used to get her mail.

"I like this number. It's somewhere between here and over there. I wish I was there rather than here. Any Invites?. Well done keep it up. P.S. Watch out for the robots."
