Does being called Piers confine the bearer to a life of pink shirts?

I quite like the name though.

why?

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 12:12

Why do I like it?

I don't know; I am not sure if you can explain likes and dislikes.

Yes.

AmIOdetteOrOdileOrABagpipe · 24/01/2009 12:19

There are two Piers in DS2's class. One will definitely be wearing pink shirts.

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 12:20

yes, same class as Tristram/Christian/Miles etc

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 12:21

Oh dear. I like Christian too.
It seems my boy names are either wildly offbeat (Archimedes for example, now whet would he wear?) or pink-shirted.

Erm...... 'fraid so!

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 12:22

lol - I'm an inverted snob though and I admit it

horatio?

Hassled · 24/01/2009 12:22

Yes. Also Boden-modelling.

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 12:24

There is a Kevin in the current Boden catalogue.

I know a lovely Piers. He is 15 and has flippy blond hair .

ChugtasticCrew · 24/01/2009 12:24

Lol! Yes and Hugo, Rupert and Crispin. I did mention this once on a thread and got a right ticking off from a well known mumsnetter (can't remember who now) so brace yourself.

We all know it's true though...

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 12:26

I also like Hugo. But with a lamentable lack of foresight I gave my cat that name, so think it's ruled out.

wombleprincess · 24/01/2009 12:27

my husband would say so...

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 12:29

There is nothing wrong with pink shirts, per se.

sonniboo · 24/01/2009 14:13

Do you mean pink as in colour or brand (Thomas Pink)???

I'm struggling to see a connection with either... please can someone explain...

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 14:14

The colour. IME.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 24/01/2009 16:16

I just cannot stand that name

sonniboo · 24/01/2009 17:11

Piers is a lovely, old, traditional name - I really like it and know a lovely 12 year old Piers.

I still don't get the pink connection....

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 17:39

It was a silly joke where I worked sonniboo, there were a couple of Piers and they both seemed to wear a lot of pink. One can't tar all Piers with the same brush of course

chandellina · 24/01/2009 17:42

i was just thinking of this name today. Dh would never go for it but i think it's rather nice. (DH does wear a lot of pink himself though.)

SoMuchToBitsOfHaggis · 24/01/2009 17:57

I always think of a Piers as being an upper class sort of name. On the other hand, it makes me think of the seaside too.

MommyHasaHeadache · 24/01/2009 18:07

My boss is called Piers and he is upper class and does wear pink shirts! lol

ScottishMummy · 24/01/2009 18:08

negative connotation's for me,worked with a toff who pronounced it "pee-arse".quite apt really

mrsseanbean · 24/01/2009 18:09

Interseting!
Any Piers from other social strata lurking out there?
