Nantucket · 23/01/2009 18:06

I love Dilys (was on our list for a girl)

and Huw for a boy (I know not on your list)

Nantucket · 23/01/2009 18:09

How about Aneuirin ( I will have spelt that wrong but you know as in Bevan) with Nye for short?

I like that and a good person to be named after.

Mammina · 23/01/2009 18:12

nantucket I do like it but unfortunately bec I come from N. Wales we pronounce it differently and the nn Nye doesn't work - can't even begin to think how to write the way we'd pronounce it..

I've got an Alys which is really easy to pronouce (obviously) but still has to be spelled but I think that's the case with anything even slightly unusual

SoMuchToBits · 23/01/2009 18:21

I know an Alys too (in England) and a Tomas, which no-one seems to have much of a problem with.

honey123 · 23/01/2009 18:25

My DD2 age 13 is called Carys, I have always loved the name & she likes it especially as she explains its Welsh origins (her dad is Welsh but we live in England)Obviously we always have to spell it & sometimes it is annoying when she gets party invites for 'Karis'

Mammina · 23/01/2009 22:59

I like Alys a lot but another one I can't use bec. of other family members! Carys & Cerys are nice

cadi, Mali are v. popular.

Mammina · 23/01/2009 23:05

yes and I like them both but want to avoid them for that reason

OP posts:
Mammina · 23/01/2009 23:06

plus when I mentioned Cadi to DH a few years back he said 'what, as in golf caddy',so that put me off

izyboy · 23/01/2009 23:13

Non. Whould that be a shortened version of say, Rhiannon? I know a few and quite like the simplicity of the name.

Jic · 23/01/2009 23:24

I like Iolo, Carys, Ioan.

Don't like Caleb although prefer the Welsh pronunciation.
Hogyn bach ni o'r enw Emyr a da'n ni'n byw yn Llundain, ma pawb yn gael trafferth hefor "r" Cymraeg.

Mari, Mair, Elinor, Mali, Gwenno (dd)!

Mammina · 23/01/2009 23:37

I thought Manon could be shortened to Non maybe, but isn't Non a bit negative?
Jic dyna pam dwi'n osgoi bob dim efo R (heb son am ll, rh, ch, a hyd yn oed u)

OP posts:
Jic · 23/01/2009 23:47

Hmm, dwi'n gwbod. Ond weithiau ma pobol ddim yn hyd yn oed trio deud enwau Cymraeg! Diogrwydd ydi o, weithiau.

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 23/01/2009 23:50

I love Dilys and Caleb

what about Arwyn? thats pretty too

has anyone mentioned Dylan?

SoMuchToBitsOfHaggis · 24/01/2009 00:19

Sorry, don't speak Welsh, have only lived in Wales (cardiff) for a few years. My older sister lives in Aberystwyth and is a fluent Welsh speaker though.

Anyway, there is a Rhiannon in ds's class (in England) but she is known as Rhia rather than Non. (I don't think her parents have any Welsh connections btw, despite the fact her brother is called Evan).

jeanjeannie · 24/01/2009 08:36

My cousin is from N Wales and her three are Eleri, Huw and Sioned. Great names.

runnyhabbit · 24/01/2009 08:48

Thought I'd add my suggestions

Possible girls names -
Angharad
Lowri
Elin Mair
Gwennan
Seirian (sp?)

All the boys names have already been mentioned

wombleprincess · 24/01/2009 09:19

sorry, do you mean a name which wont have the pss taken out of it? they are all very welsh so very pss takeable....

girls are all nice. like cerion for a boy, not sure about the others..

izyboy · 24/01/2009 09:30

Seren is nice.

rainbowskittle · 24/01/2009 13:22

Heddwyn for a boy? (Wyn)

Love Mair and Eirlys for girls (Eirlys shortened to Lys or Ei). Also love Blydd but would probably be constantly mispronounced as Blythe?
