PuppyMonkey · 22/01/2009 20:28

It's a bit outdated I fear... are you living in 1964?

Wonderstuff · 22/01/2009 20:30

laughable I'm afraid

Nantucket · 22/01/2009 20:31

You would be ahead of the game in retro chic.

All those Mabels would look very passe

WinkyWinkola · 22/01/2009 20:31

What about Babette? Much cooler.

no5 · 22/01/2009 20:32

i dont know, it could be very in 20 years time, you never know. but i know barbaras in their 70s, my neighbor, friend of mil, and mother of milk lady.
sorry

Kelix · 22/01/2009 20:33

lol baby Barbara.

upto you I suppose but I would say its laughable

PuppyMonkey · 22/01/2009 20:33

A nickname could be RaRa!

Northernlurker · 22/01/2009 20:33

It's just not a good name!

Barbara Bush

Barbara Cartland

Barbara Windsor

Enough said I think

Sidge · 22/01/2009 20:34

Er, no.

differentID · 22/01/2009 20:34

I personally loathe the name because I have a cousin of said name who was a horror. She is 2 years younger than I am and at my 7th Birthday party because she didn't win a round of pass the parcel, she stood up and deliberately wet herself in front of all of us. Thumbs down from here I'm afraid.

MrsMattie · 22/01/2009 20:35

NO.

NimChimpsky · 22/01/2009 20:35

Good point well made, Bar-bera.

Zaftig · 22/01/2009 20:35

No, no nooooo. I can't even imagine it on a baby.

snuffyp · 22/01/2009 20:36

I,m with northernlurker i just think Barbara Cartland!whats with everyone now liking all the old fashioned names???

Oovavu · 22/01/2009 20:36

It has to be said in a gruff northern accent. It's the name of the transvestite taxi driver in League of Gentlemen..... not a baby's name (although lol at 'Baby Barbara')

Nantucket · 22/01/2009 20:42

Dear dear, come on poeple it's so nerdy and outdated it's cool.

You can get away with it if you are, say Kate Moss? Or, Natalie Appleton?

Are you them? Or anyone a bit like them?

If you are super confident and super cool, poeple (who know you) will asssume it's cool.

differentID · 22/01/2009 20:44

What sort of job do you see a Barbabra doing?
I see a hairdressers known as Babs. Sorry

Heated · 22/01/2009 20:49

Ah Nantucket, Mabel is also on my list!

So is it naff by association rather than because of the sound or look of the name?

It puts me in mind of Barnaby because of the Bar start and another b in the middle, pretty similar don't you think?

Ra Ra is a nn I hadn't considered, will mull over Babette,

Thanks for all your thoughts, I'm not put off yet!!
