Middle name for Isabel?

I prefer Isabel to Isabella, but I'm finding it difficult to come up with a middle name for Isabel. Our surname is two syllables and starts with an Ly (which means names like Lila are soooooo out!)

Any thoughts?

Do you have any family names that you can use? To me thats more important than the name combination as you hardly ever say the full name anyway.

SlartyBartFast · 22/01/2009 12:16

my goodness, i was going to post exactly the same osofc...
for my youngest dd i used a middle name that was the same as an old lady i looked after, which i didnt like the shortend version of.

would you actually use both names??

BonsoirAnna · 22/01/2009 12:18

Isabel Ariane Ly...
Isabel Eleanor Ly

We have an Isabel Frances. We used a family name in the end as I was struggling to find one.

There were/are several names that have family connections that I like (in particular Francesca, Catherine and Maddelena), but none of them go particularly well with Isabel as they tend to be 3 syllables and it all gets rather long. I probably won't use both names on a regular basis, but I would like the middle name to add a bit of - um, I don't know, maybe "atmosphere" to the name, if you know what I mean?

I'd like something unusual, pretty, feminine, whimsical even but not particularly old lady-ish.

Rose is out as it was my grandmother's name and she and my mother didn't get along. I also like Grace, but it's already my neice's middle name - not sure how I feel about the duplication. Agree that it doesn't rule it out completely, but if I can find something else, I'd rather.

Mine lo's is Katie Joy. For family reasons - katie might work but joy with ly could sound all it a bit jolly!

violethill · 22/01/2009 13:24

Anything except Grace, Rose or May, as those three must constitute 90% of girls' middle names.

Penthesileia · 22/01/2009 13:27

Isobel Florence

Mary

KristinaM · 22/01/2009 14:50

Isobel Ruth
Isobel Grace
Isobel Anne
Isobel Jane

i think its the 3,1,2 pattern that's so attractive

agree that 3 syllable middle name is a bit much, however lovely

NB i think we have the same surname - it ruled out so many of the names we liked

helenhismadwife · 22/01/2009 15:55

My Isabelle's middle name is Rose

SoMuchToBits · 22/01/2009 16:10

Kristina too funny! I don't think it's the same, as ours isn't very common - but it's such a shame there are lots of names that I absolutely love - Lila, Maya, Mariah, Layla - that are totally out because they're total tongue twisters! It sounds like such an unoffensive surname at first until you start to try to name your child!

ours is extremely unusual. otherwise i would just post it . it least i know that you are not one of my SILs as none of them are pg!!

we liked lewis and lily

unfiortunatly i have a first name that doesnt work AT ALL with Dhs surname. i use my own name professionally and socially i use my own name as a middle name

so that rather than being layla ly i am layla robertson ly*. its a slight improvement

littlelamb · 22/01/2009 20:43

Had ds been a girl he would have been Isabel Zara

nowwearefour · 22/01/2009 20:43

Grace popped into my mind instantly and it seems that others have had the same thoughts!

plonker · 22/01/2009 20:59

My dd was almost Isabelle Hope
