I HATE 'creative' spellings but there seem to be so many alternatives to Isobel - Isabel, Isabelle etc. Which one do you think is the best?

I would spell it Isabelle

lunavix · 18/01/2009 10:07

But my childen have 'alternative' spellings of their names, which is a pita!

mysterymoniker · 18/01/2009 10:09

those are all proper versions of the same name though aren't they? like madeline or madeleine

fryalot · 18/01/2009 10:10

I like Isobel

violethill · 18/01/2009 10:10

As you have done: Isobel.

Isabel makes me think.. 'Is a bell?....'

Isabelle is too frilly

Isobel : perfect!

lillypie · 18/01/2009 10:11

I think Isobel is perfect too

NoBiggy · 18/01/2009 10:15

Isobel.

The varaitions of Isabel make me think Spanish.

kerala · 18/01/2009 10:15

Isobel. Lovely name as long as you fine with the fact it is very popular. There are lots of Isobels (spelt in varous ways!) around here.

Tidey · 18/01/2009 10:16

I prefer it with an A, because I focus in on the fact it has 'sob' in it otherwise. It's an unhappy looking name spelled that way.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 18/01/2009 10:26

I like Isobel best, I think it's the Irish versiuon?

An Irish friend has a daughter called Isobel and shortens it to Iso (Izzo), which is nice and can't be done with the A spelling.

waspriceyp · 18/01/2009 10:30

Isobel very pretty name.

thirtysomething · 18/01/2009 10:30

isabelle gets my vote

Vintagepommery · 18/01/2009 10:55

GossipMonger · 18/01/2009 10:58

Isobel - not as pretty

NorktasticNinja · 18/01/2009 11:05

bronze · 18/01/2009 11:08

Isobel

shootfromthehip · 18/01/2009 11:10

I like Isabelle because of the 'belle', beautiful bit.

KatB · 18/01/2009 12:56

I like Isabelle.
Prefer Isabella tho, I like frilly

jellybeans · 18/01/2009 14:07

Isabelle

PavlovtheCat · 18/01/2009 14:11

I thought the correct spelling of it, is as you have in the title - Isobel.

Isobel or Isabella,

MrsMattie · 18/01/2009 14:11

I would spell it Isobel (Isabella is a completely different name to me). Isabelle looks made up.

sonniebonnie · 18/01/2009 15:23

I prefer Isabel.

Isabel works better in other languages (German, French, Spanish) whereas Isobel wouldn't.

My second choice would be Isabelle.

Third choice Isabella.

onadietcokebreak · 18/01/2009 15:25

Isabel or Isabelle gets my vote,

Takver · 18/01/2009 16:14

Isabel good if your dd is likely to be elsewhere in southern Europe, also gives the option of the spanish shortening Isa which I like.
Isobel also good and perhaps more common in UK.
Ishbel is a pretty Scottish alternative.
