Ansell?

Having a boy in March and just can't decide between Daniel and Adam. Our surname is Ansell. My favourite by far is Adam (and there aren't many boys names I love), but Adam Ansell? Really divided as to whether this sounds silly or OK.

(Honest) opinions?

Well it's my ds's name, so I like it! But honestly I don't think Adam Ansell works too well.

ilovelovemydog · 13/01/2009 16:24

No. Sounds too much like Ansell Adams...

Nemoandthefishes · 13/01/2009 16:28

love adam[ds name] but to be honest dont think it goes with ansell. Also not sure if daniel goes with it either.

Fimbo · 13/01/2009 16:31

I agree with Nemo too re Daniel. Too many l's I think.

Rory Ansell

Henry Ansell

Jonathon Ansell

Peter Ansell

Robert Ansell

Harry Ansell

My maiden name was Ansell, and apparently my parents wanted to call me Ann but decided against it for the "AA" thing (not alcohol but cars)
Think Adam Ansell sounds ok but would worry as to the initials for the playground later in life.
Mind you that said children will find something "funny" such as ansell and gretel or ants in your pants (ha ha..)

wenceslasmyeducation · 13/01/2009 16:36

Of the two Adam is better.

salvadory · 13/01/2009 16:41

I like it, but it does remind me of Adam Ant (not that that will be a problem for your little one) Go for it, also like Daniel (Dam Ansell sounds like he'd grow up to be a rugby playing hit with the girls IYSWIM )

salvadory · 13/01/2009 16:41

oops meant Dan not Dam!

GrimbleTheResourceful · 13/01/2009 16:43

I think it's fine. I actually really like it, it has a ring to it, and I don't see the initials as a problem at all.

sophiesmummie · 13/01/2009 17:11

I love Adam but don't like Adam Ansell - a bit of a mouthful and too close to Ansel Adams.

Not too keen on combination Daniel Ansell either - too many els.

What about

Edward Ansell
Quentin Ansell
Harry Ansell
James Ansell

loveverona · 13/01/2009 18:30

Thanks all. Those are our concerns too. Hadn't noticed the Ansel Adams one though! Adam Ant was my main concern, although as you say, his generation won't know him. And the one re too many ls with Daniel. Oh God! Now what?!

Edward's nice. And Harry was his grandfather's name, but lots of those around now...... hmmmm, back to the drawing board me thinks.

Don'think that either Adam or Daniel go very well wth Ansell. Sorry.

James
Robert
Frederick
Marcus
David
Peter
Luke

GrimbleTheResourceful · 13/01/2009 20:57

What's wrong with it being like Ansel Adams?

Jodyray · 13/01/2009 21:01

I think you need a one syllable name something strong like Jake, Luke if you see what i mean. I do like Adam though....and if you like it then go for it!

thisisyesterday · 13/01/2009 21:03

i think it's fine

lostinnappies · 13/01/2009 21:09

I LOVE the name Adam DH and I wanted to name DS2 Adam but with our deeply religious sounding surname it sounded a bit odd.

you have to look at it this way - if you have doubts about it now then maybe these will be magnified when he is about to start school etc. We worried about our son being teased because of the religious link between Adam and our surname.

kentgirl73 · 13/01/2009 21:16

i am biased as m ds is Adam John, love Adam and dont really think Adam Ansell is awful! I never call our ds by his name and surname, however Adam wasnt even on our list, he just looked like an Adam when he was born!!!

BikeRunSki · 13/01/2009 22:55

Never did Ansell Adams any harm! Love the name Adam (but is DH, so biased) and also love alliterative names.
