Pronounced Sean.

It's welsh.

Thoughts?

my daughter is Sian. I love her name, it's so pretty.

mejon · 13/01/2009 11:58

Lovely - though if you aren't in Wales you'll probably wonder how people can mispronounce a name that to us seems so simple (like Sian too). You'll no doubt get Zion, See-on etc but I wouldn't let that put you off.

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 12:07

No. This is a bit too zealous for my tastes.

Seán or Shawn or Shaun would be better.

I wouldn't know how to pronounce Sian. Shan?

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 12:08

Made famous outside of Wales by Sion Jenkins the man who killed his foster daughter Billy Jenkins.

Bucharest · 13/01/2009 12:09

Or not as he would have us believe....
I always want to put a P in front of it.

bangandthedirtisgone · 13/01/2009 12:17

But we're not Irish Liffey, we're welsh.

I know someone called Sion who is not the welsh Sion but a normal Sion - pronounced See-on. He's more commonly called Si for short.

UnquietDad · 13/01/2009 12:25

There's also Sion Simon, the trendy young MP with an earring.

Gorionine · 13/01/2009 12:28

Sion

Not pronounced the welsh way but the capital city of my home county (Valais) in Switzerland.

The name is beautiful

I do not think people will relate your son.s name to the murder of Billy Jenkins. I thing if we search long enough we probably all have murderers names...

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 13:20

oh, yes of course Bang. I am not able to be objective but I imagined (?) that Seán/Shaun has travelled better. GOne mainstream if you see what I mean.

CuppaTeaJanice · 13/01/2009 13:57

Sion Jenkins - my old deputy headmaster and careers teacher!!!

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 14:04

NO way!!! THEEEEE Sion Jenkins??

did you all fancy him? He was a goodlooking bastard, for a murderer!

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 13/01/2009 14:09

alleged murderer

WorzselMummage · 13/01/2009 14:09

I know a Sion and i know its pronounced Shawn but i always want to call him Si-on, the same for Seans.. i always think of them as 'Seen'.

CuppaTeaJanice · 13/01/2009 15:40

Liffey, it was a boys school so I'm guessing most pupils didn't fancy him!!! Us few girls that went there generally fancied the best looking sixth formers, not the teachers!
